Default A Good Deal Or Not

With one hour left to go on EBAY there is an 2002 SC with 1710 miles on the odometer. It's located in Conn and the bid is now $30100. Is this a great deal or one to be avoided?

The mileage sounds too good to be true to me and the price is way out of line for a 7 year-old car that was probably stickered around $60K. Leave it alone!

personally, i wouldn't want a car that's sat for 8 years without being driven. for $30k i'd get a newer model with more miles. or for $20k get an '02 with 50k miles.

The book value would not be significantly greater, even with miles that low. No way the car is worth $30,000. It's worth the same amount as any other 2002 SC430, so if you bought it and then ever wanted to sell it, you would lose LOTS of dough.

Thanks, that makes alot of sense! By the way, the winning bid ended up at $30,100 ! Hope the new owner has luck with it, it was white/ecru and it must be the lowest milage 02 in the country.

Yeah, I saw that eBay listing when it first hit and was thinking about posting here about it. For $30K I would rather have a higher-mileage '05. I just put a deposit on an '02 w/66K miles and I'm more worried about it being 7 years old (and 10 years old when my 36 month loan is up) than I am about the mileage. My '99 Lexus RX300 (that I'm trading in) has 165K miles and the engine/transmission seem to still be in decent shape, but I've had other nagging issues with it such as the door locks not working, the driver's side sun visor not staying up, etc. (both of these issues, in particular the locks, seem to be common with '99 Lexus RX300's).

I drive an '02 with 140K KM on it and it still runs perfectly. I wouldn't be too worried about it conking out on you, if you choose to go the 02 route. According to my local lexus dealership (I am certainly not an expert) these Sc430s run into the 300K KM mileage without the expectation of issues. Again, I'm no expert but with them telling me that, I bought my 02 without any second guessing. I did have a roof switch issue, which freked the hell out of me, but it was an easy fix. So far no engine issues at all.
I paid 17K (canadian) for mine and it has 138KM on it.
