Infiniti G37 -- SC430 Rip-off?
http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/10/f...ultry-secreta/
now if they only would have kept the J30, Infiniti would really have some lineage.
is anyone disturbed how close the G37 and SC430 are?

it's pretty close other than the rear lights and spoiler.
good power and a nice stance.
but we're very spoiled w/ our luxurious interior.
I can't wait to see what kind of bodykits that the aftermarket sector will have for this new G37 convertible.

I think Infiniti is great looking car. Actually if I had the choice between the 2 I would pick the G. Actually was looking at it for the Mrs. next year birthday present. Better Handling, more after market support and faster. SC430 is great car, but G would is more of sportier car something I like. Plus they don't look that much alike.

did you see the total lack of trunk space?
for me, that was one of the reasons I got my 430, I can carry my sunday golf bag and shoes in the back with the top down.
for my money, the G37 is an uninspired rip-off of the inspired 430.
close but no cigar.

I'll disagree that it's a rip off. The G37 is the further evolution of some Skyline and Z influence that went into the coupe and they just took the roof off. I actually like it, but never cared for the sound of those Nissan/Infiniti V6s.

the g35 was heavily influenced by the sc430. and the g37 is an evolution of the g35. so i'd say it owes a lot of its styling to the sc430. my friend has a non-convertible g37 and i'm not impressed. it's a little faster and more agile. but the interior isn't as nice. it feels flimsy compared to the sc. and i prefer the way a slightly modified sc looks. aside from the wheels, lexus got it right.

I'd take the SC any day of the week over the G37. THey are in different classes and price ranges so there really should not be a comparison unless comparing a pre-owned SC430 wit ha new G37.

You can't really blame Infiniti. Toyota has already said it's going to stop building the SC430. Why not try to fill in that niche? If Toyota is dumb enough to stop building its halo car, Nissan would be foolish not to take advantage of that miscue.
Where Toyota is really missing the boat is not realizing that the SC430 should be more than just a weak sales number. It should be like the Corvette in the Chevrolet lineup. Without the Corvette, Chevy is just another cheap GM brand. When you think Chevrolet, you think Corvette.
Toyota should do the same, and I don't mean necessarily from a performance standpoint, but from a technology standpoint. The SC430 should be the platform that gets all the new stuff first. It should be the car that exemplifies the technical superiority of Lexus. It should be something that people lust over because it has more features than anything else on the road.

Even before the convertible version comes out, I already think the G37 coupe's nose looks very similar to the SC430 .
To me, the SC430 looks better from the front and it's side profile is actually sexier with the top up than the G37 coupe, but the G37 coupe looks better from the side view with the top down. And yes, I like the rear end of the G37 coupe better.
However, the SC430 has a more sculpted feel to it which makes it unique compared to most other cars.
As for interior and overall build quality, the SC430 blows away the G37.
