I too have a small vibration from time to time. I thought at first it may be engine/trans mount (I never got a chance around to fix this). Now I maybe leaning also with the control arm. How can we tell (symptoms) control arms or engine/trans mounts? Also, I had my SC wheel alignment at the dealer. Would they have noticed the control arm(s) are bad when they did the alignment? I heard some forum member was stating that alignment people give the suspension a good check out before they start the alignment process.

 

When they did my alignment they missed the worn control arm, or at least did not mention anything to me. This ended up costing me another alignment after I replaced it with a new unit.

They should do an inspection, should.



A thorough inspection only takes 10 minutes with a good sized pry bar.

 

That's what I suspected. Now I have to find a suspension specialist to troubleshoot. Ain't going back to the dealer after that fiasco. Any member know a good suspension place in the Seattle area? Thnx.

 

I just went thru this with my sc, bought good years GS-D3 from tire rack, had shake in steering wheel at 55-60 right away, had tires rebalanced, helped but still shook slightly at 60. Went to different tire shop for road force balancing, found frt tires too out of round to balance. Called tire rack and exchanged tires for Bridgestone re960's, had tires road forced balanced no more shake and totally smooth ride. 40k warranty on the Bridgestones- will see!

 

I had an -02Sc that never had a balance problem. I had removed the Runflats and put on some Dunlops.

Last year I switched to an '03SC. Again switched to Dunlop Direeza 101s. Car ran great. At 5K miles I had the tires rotated & balanced with the service.

As soon as I pulled out of dealership and hit the highway I noticed a vibration at highway speed. Called the dealer from the road and discussed it. Took the car back a couple of days later, they put the wheels back where they had been, car was smooth again. We are going on the assumption that suspension wear to the tires caused the difference between front and rear.
So I will not bother rotating.

If the tires wear out before the lease is up I'll put the run-flats back on to finish the lease, 1.5yrs to go. We only did 7K miles in a yr and a half, so I think I'll make it.
