Default SC430 Spare

I have noted that original equipment for the doughnut spare is T145/70/17.
has anyone investigated the Toyota Camry 2007 and up it appears to be a T155/70/17>
10mm more on width will the spare clear front and rear calipers?

Thanks
DJ

Just replaced the run flats on '06 SC and now am reading every post as to spare solutions. Interesting to see how the issue has multiple solutions. The info is invaluable. Haven't decided which way to go yet but know it won't be the Lexus high cost option...based on principle. Appreciate the discourse and the community!

I just installed the Lexus spare tire kit and it fits and looks great, plus I have peace of mind during road trips knowing that I won't be sitting on the road side too long waiting for a tow or flat repair. I bought a gently used Lexus OEM spare rim and tire on e-bay a few months ago followed by the great deal from Sewell for the spare tire kit (minus the rim and tire). Sure, I lose trunk space but I'm willing to accept the trade-off. It cost more than the RX and Supra solutions that many are doing but I'm a bit OCD about OEM!

Default 12 Maxima Spare tire on 02 sc430

Hi guys. After not been able to find a spare donut for my 02 sc430, I resorted to any spare tire that would be the same or closest to the sc430 spare tire size. I came across a 2012 Nissan Maxima spare tire that is 145/R80/17. I read on this forum and elsewhere that SC430 spare size is 145/70/R17. Will it be OK to use this Maxima spare tire on my SC430 as spare. It arrived yesterday and I tried to put on in the front. It fit nicely but due to the tire height ratio (80) instead of 70, it was an inch or two higher than my actual 18" tire. I have not yet driven with it on. Just wondering if it will be OK to use this and won't cause issues. Thanks.

…………….......Tire size:............245/40-18.................145/80-17..............Difference
Diameter inches (mm):............25.72 (653.2).............26.13 (663.8)..........0.42 (10.6) 1.6%

If the total height of your tires do not match, u have a problem. In my opinion 1.6% height difference may not be of significance only for a short distance, some experts here may have different opinion.

...using it for an emergency spare shouldn't be a problem. It's slightly taller (as shown in the post before), but you're going to only be using it to get home, tire shop,etc....it's not a permanent replacement.

...it depends on the vehicle. In looking for wheels, I found out that the Nissan Maxima has the same bolt pattern as the SC,but there are other makes/models that share the 5x114.3 also. You could think about this also, all Lexus vehicles don't share the same bolt pattern either

I am shopping for a spare. I believe I've read all the pertinent threads. Supra TT and RX8 spares are pretty hard to find these days. Maxima and Camry spares are available for about $100 but they are either a little wider or a little higher than the Lexus SC spare. A lightly used SC spare can be purchased for about $200 delivered.

I've seen a very few postings on the Lexus IS350 spare. They frequently are a 145/70/17. They are cheaper than the SC spare but more than the Camry or Maxima. I read one posting that said this IS spare fits with plenty of room for the brakes. I believe the poster but can anyone else confirm this?

Thanks!

Roger

I just about fell over when I found out how much Lexus wanted for their Spare kit. So I started to research a different path. I recieved many references to the Supra TT spare and found that it also was an item that was in HIGH demand. So more research led me to my solution. I purchased a factory RX8 spare tire kit and used the spare wheel, tire and wheel cover from it. It has the same size 17" wheel and tire that the lexus kit comes with but it is alloy. That means that it is lighter than the Lexus wheel. It is actually pretty good looking too. I purchased some quarter inch panel wood at the local Hardware store and using the existing trunk floor board made a duplicate of it. I then cut away the section that the spare tire occupies and then I had my new floor panel. I painted it silver to match the original one and there I had it! My kit. The original carpet fits on top of the new floor piece perfect. I have included pictures below of what I did! Also of the kit that can be picked up on Ebay for like $200.00 shipped!

Looks good...wanted to know if you secured it with a mount or does it just sit in the well...if so, does it rattle around if not secured??

Does the SC version in the US/EU comes without a spare kit? Or its only for the special versions?
