center console removal instruction
Hi guys,
Does anyone have instruction on how to remove the center console where the gear shift is? I need to get access to one of the audio connector under/near the gear shift.
PS: I am looking to add an audio auxiliary port.
Thank you.

If I recall correctly from when I wired my radar detector, it just pops/getly pries out.

this is from the TPS disable thread. but i think it's the information you're looking for.
- put shifter on N, screw off shifter
- open up center console
- pull the whole heated seat module straight up, it will come up. disconnect
- you will be able to pull up the "back" part of the shift plate area (close to center console)
- once it's up, the only point holding it are two clips right below the radio
- pull the shift plate towards the back of the car and a bit angle up. jiggle a bit and it will come off

thank you for the response. do you have any chance have diagrams from the service manual that show how to take things apart? i realize alot of the holding pieces together are via clip-on clips, and i don't want to chance it of breaking them. please advise. thanks.

I agree with the previous posters. The removal is very easy. Once the center console is open, I found it easier to push the heater switch forward and up, then lift. The top pops right up with a little jiggling. By the way, the lighter door needs to be closed to reinstall -- that took a little figuring out!
A question though - how does the audio door switch disconnect from the console top? Mine seems to be a little out of alignment, or sticky from a previous owner's beer mishap. It seems to work fine when the console panel is not seated, but is misaligned when reseated.

I want to hide a phone charger to the underside of the cigarette lighter. Does anyone know the best way to do this and how to take the console apart to get to it.

Welcome to CL. You are on the right thread and read the reply #3 above then you are 2/3 of way there.
Once you popped lose the wood shift/cup holder piece, you will encounter 2 small wire looms, one to the cig lighter and the other to the door button for the radio door cover. If you needed to have a better access then you will need to pop lose the door button. Look to the back side of the button and you can see how it is attached to the shiftter piece, use a small screw driver and push in the small square recess hole on both sides and the whole button will come out. I had done this maybe 20 times and that button is always the critical one for me to pop lose. Good luck.
