Default Changing the antenna

I'm looking to swap out ugly Sc430 stock for an s2000/350 z antenna

My question is will I need the whole unit?

I think this would work for you since your Sc is dark. I think I would have to have my painted.

TLW,

Is the antenna you're going with telescoping? I like your idea of a short black antenna replacement, but the picture almost looks like it has a motor at its base.

I would have expected a short black antenna to have almost nothing, except mounting hardware, at its base. At least the one I installed on my Miata did. Or is there something more sophisticated required my the Mark Levinson head unit?

Please let us know how you make out.

Jerry

I see the RF connector for the antenna and a DC power connection. It's definitely an S2000 antenna and the S2000 antenna is definitely not telescoping so, I'm going to venture an educated guess and say that there's an RF amplifier to boost the signal to make up for the fact that it's a stubby antenna.

Nice, I guess any pics of how the antenna connects will be a good start. How goes the "project"?

If you really must make your SC look like a Nissan with that black stubby thing sticking up then yes, it is an easy swap.

Not sure if the angle itself will lend to a direct swap, but the OEM assembly is in there with just one nut , one connector, lead from radio, and drain tube.

About 20 minutes to R&R an OEM, perhaps longer on replacing if you need to rig it to make it work again the angle is what is needed as you would not want your trunk filling up with water if the seal is not tight.

I have done a few of these already for a few folks and though it may get a tad tight it is very easy to pull out the OEM unit.

A few threads on the antennae recently, didn't think people still used radio these days.

Good point there! I listen to either satellite radio or mp3's so, the antenna is always retracted!

I actually listened to FM for about 10 minutes the other day (the Carputer was up in the house and I had to run to Radio Shack for some bits and pieces). Only took 10 minutes for me to remember why I stopped listening.

But, if you drive around with the antenna up a lot of the time, I think the little black stubby antenna would look nicer...especially on a darker-colored car.

Took apart the rear trunk today to install new coilovers. Since I was in there I removed the antenna and tried to see what it would look with a short stubby antenna. Needless to say, I was not content with the results.

Ive decided it's better to just unplug and make sure it never goes up again.

I was considering totally removing and have a body shop fill in the hole for that clean look.

I think on dark colors cars this would be nice.

Yep, mine does not go up either due to the RDS function.
Sorry it did not work out for you, did it not fit, or just the aesthetics in case others wanted a go at it.
