Default Headlamp Washers

Hello, sorry for the newbie kind of question, but I have never used my headlamp washers, and so I was trying to test them out when I was washing my car the other day, and I could not get them to work. I never tried them with the lights on, and maybe that is the key, but what do I have to do to get those to work? I hit the button that has the label on it and nothing.

No urgency here, just curiosity. Thanks.

Yeah, I held it down, just pressed and released, everything (besides with the lamps on which shouldn't matter I wouldn't think). I don't find them useful at all, but I just want to see them work.
