Default New SC Member...

Hey just converted MB owner. Had my eye on a 05 CLK500 and decided to up a few bucks and buy a 2003 SC430. I'm picking my baby up in about a week.

I have a few questions.

1)I test drove a 2006. Didn't play wih the sportshift. Is everything almost the same? I don't care too much about the performace. Just wanted to know if any thing major had change?

2) Can i change to the 2006 and newer taillights with ease? Has anyone done it

3) Sounds like these cars have no known issues. Anything to watch out for. I'm of average income, in my mid twenties and not looking to spend millions in servicing.

4) Any servicers in the VA area? Anyone in the VA area?

1) 06 is 6 speed, it's a bit faster and the throttle response is faster. other than performance, headlights, grille, front bumper change, instrument cluster changed, shift plate changed, taillight changed

2) do a search, bunch of us did it. i was one of them. there's a diy

3) i haven't heard of any major issues with the car. this car is rated one of the most reliable out there

Thanks for the answers.

1) What changed on the instrument cluster. Is it still that brilliant white color?
I fell in love with that. The sift plate is gray, know of any aluminium after market kits?

yes, the 02-05 was just the "normal" face, you can see it during the day time and light up during the night. 06+, they change it back to the new style lexus where when the car is shut off, it's completely black. when you start the car, everything lights up. looks a lot better

the shift plate for 06+ is aluminum color. don't know of any aftermarket kit on that

Welcome!

And it's nice to see another member in the Virginia area! I'm in Northern Virginia, just outside DC.

I also have an '03 and I LOVE it!

I've sat in an '06 (installed Sirius satellite radio in another CL member's car) and I know what you mean about the instrument cluster...gorgeous! But, I didn't tear up when I got back into my car. The '03 instrument cluster isn't bad, it just doesn't have the "wow!" to it. I do wonder if the "wow!" factor eventually goes away and it goes back to just being a well-lit gas gauge.

I was concerned that the beautiful wood on the interior, the ML stereo, and the retractable hard-top would also eventually lose their "wow!" factor but, I've had mine almost a year now and I still smile every time I walk up to it!

It's an awesome car!

Again, welcome!

I'm in the NOVA area (reston).
Some more questions,

What does the 02-05 gauges look like at night?
I have only them seen them in an 06.

I'm purchasing a Blue w/ saddle brown interior.
What is the correct term for my color scheme?

How much did the start/auto top set up cost you?

Not sure how to describe the gauges at night, other than to say they look "normal". I'm sure there are some better-educated people here who will come up with some fabulous adjectives to describe them!

I paid $365 to Luxury MotorWorks for the start/auto-top module including shipping) and $400 for installation at Myer-Emco. Now, that installation fee also included a hour of labor for them to install my Bluetooth kit as well. Also, I wasn't too impressed with the installation of the LuxLink kit (they took some shortcuts) so, I wouldn't recommend them to someone else.

I'm sure that Lexus has a fabulous name for the blue...like "Effervescent Skyline" or something like that...I call it blue. My car is black with the tan interior but, if you ask a Lexus dealer, he'll tell you that my car is "Obsidian with an Ecru interior". Whatever :-)

My wife's busy tonight...do you want to see the gauges?

umm, it's pretty flat for 02-05, like most other cars. basically when the car is shut off, you can still see the whole cluster, mph numbers, etc...

Quadocox,

If you want, I can take some pictures; not sure if they're quite do it justice. I was actually talking about just driving over to you. I live in Falls Church...you're 25 minutes away and it's looking like a very nice night for a drive.

Pics would be great.
I'm in the process of moving and right now it's a bit hectic.
