Navigation System- Error "No Disk Detected"
I rarely use my Nav. system, but on occasion I do with no issue. However, recently I went to use it & the screen ready "No Disk Detected". I do not have my "manual" as it's been misplaced & I've looked everywhere for it. Could any of you tell me where this navigations system "disk" is located in the car so that I can access it & see what the issue may be & if its just "out of position" or if it needs a "service" repairman. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Are you serious?
Just open your trunk and you will see it.
Don't be afraid to remove the little plastic cover, you are not going to break anything.
I had the "error message" when I updated the new nav dusc before, so I unpluged the battery to reset the ECU.

I am serious. Here's the deal . As i said, i bought the car used & the nav. system was working up until this point. I cant locate the manual. I have in the trunk a plastic cover that says "voice activated" --but i dont believe i ever had the "voice" in the system (perhaps an option teh car didnt come with?..unless i just dont no how to turn it on?) & we tried to remove the cover it but it appears to be a "dummy" (no pun intended) cover. So please tell me if I'm just that dumb & I will go force the thing open if necessary. Somebody told me that perhaps the system requires a subscription to an outside company in order to get the nav. system to work & that perhaps since I bought the car new the subscription the prior people had ran out? I could really use anyone's "sound" advice on this. Thanks so much.
The "dummy" thanks you.
I did remove & replace the disk & still got the error. So I had my husband do the battery thing & it fixed it. I also see now that it does have "voice activation". Well I appreciate your providing those easy " A,B,C" directions for the sometimes "ditzy" one here.

Glad to know I can help.
If you are into mods stuff, I suggest you read those threads started by pearlpower here on this SC430forum.
Call me A**hole b/c I won't waste my time reading/responding to those threads started by some ppl who don't know what they want or don't even have this car yet. haha

probably when you got the car they set the volume to "off", so you didn't hear anything
After I put the new one in, the nav screen said "unable to read" or something like that. So I just unplugged the battery to reset the ECU.
Normally, your nav system will update itself after you put the new disc.
Also, you can no longer use the old disc once you update. (don't borrow your friend's new disc!!!)

I have the disc that salesman gave me from some other Lexus and it is later edition than mine, but when I tried to replace I got the same error and since the version number reads a bit different from the SC upgrade disc I figure out that it is probably from RX . Now you say I can try put it in again and unplug the battery?
Just unscrew the red connector? What if it won’t read new one, I probably can repeat it with old one?
Do I need to get some radio codes after reconnecting the battery or every thing would work just losing the memory setting?

You have a 2002 SC430.
If you know that newer disc is from a RX, then you still need to make sure it is from a 2001-2004 RX.
If you use the wrong disc, it is never going to work even you unplug your battery. You only lose the memory setting unplugging the battery.
That is the problem that even the Lexus dealer salesman who gave it to me does not know for sure from which car it came from, he got it from his body in the service department when someone upgraded to the latest version this spring.
It is original Toyota DVD that says North America W41 that made in 2004 and has some version numbers on the bottom 86271-33043 and 464210-0530 - DATA ver.04.1 Can you say anything by these numbers?
What do I have to loose by trying, just my settings?
Which wire should I disconnect red or black?

I usually disconnect the negative battery cable.
Just want to make it clear that you don't need to unplug battery when you put a new disc in.
I did it because my nav drive didn't seem to read it right the first time.

That disc you have is for GEN4 systems only. Not for your 2002 (GEN2or3)

That's what I thought after initial research and try, but your "disconnect method" gave me a bit of hope.
So, I'll probably wait until my wife decides that we need to buy an upgrade for the system.
So you say since my disc for GEN4 system it will not work anyway for my SC?
