Nav screen doesn't tilt
Just noticed that the Nav Screen doesn't tilt on my 2002 SC430.
Would appreciate any clues on how to correct this issue?
I have had the car for 3 months and love it.

Assuming the button above the climate control doesn't work and it isn't a fuse that is preventing the door from opening, it could be the gear/track or the small motor that operates it is bad (replaceable). In a very quiet place without the engine running, I would try advancing the key to the position just short of engaging the starter, pressing the button above the climate control, and listening for the gear motor.

Are you pressing the tilt button quickly and not holding it down? If so, it’s probably the motor is shot….I just replaced the nav screen unit from Benzeen auto salvage for $300 and it’s working great again…I was going to replace the motor but saw too many guys saying it was a PITA so I passed…

Are you pressing the tilt button quickly and not holding it down? If so, it’s probably the motor is shot….I just replaced mine from Benzeen auto salvage for $300 and it’s working great again…I was going to replace the motor but saw too many guys saying it was a PITA so I passed…
If you decide to replace the motor, make absolutely certain you get the right one. The two motors in the nav unit are the same, but have different shaft features.
It's easy enough to take the nav unit out and apply voltage to the motors to see if they work without removing the motors. That would indicate a connector or electronics issue.

Really sorry about that. I should have read more carefully. I would try similar steps to see if I can hear the tilt motor. Unless it is just frozen in position and can be freed externally, I would pull the nav unit and inspect where the tilt motor meets the teeth on the track. The replacement motors are inexpensive, so I would replace both door and tilt motors while you have the unit out.

I would leave it alone. The tilting does not help much to eliminate the glare.

Thanks for coming back with that, I'll keep that in mind.
Initially I used to rest mycell phone on its side against the nav screen, until I parked, pulled the key out of the ignition and the nav door closed on my phone. That may be the reason it doesn't tilt any more, I did have to manipulate the door open to recover the phone, the issue may be on the teeth of the tilt motor mechanism as you say.

Given what you have described, I think you are on the right track. If you are going to all the trouble of pulling the nav out, you might want to take a look into replacing it with a modern nav or screen head unit that does nav. It was a PITA replacing it with a head unit, but every time I get in the car I am glad I did it.
I am on the lookout for a phone mirroring device to project on to the current nav screen.
