Default Q about add-on parking sensor system

I recently bought a 2002 SC430 via Carmax... didn't realize until delivery that previous owner or original dealer had installed reverse sensors... local dealer says it's an aftermarket add-on... just checking to see if anyone knows whether this typically connects in via the nav voice system... seemed to be working fine before I reset the home destination parameters... is there something that toggles it off and on... thanks.

umm this is totally aftermarket so i guess it really depends on how the previous installer did the install?

I considered getting it done for awhile, and I may eventually once I get the rear bumper replaced (a year of living in downtown Boston has ravaged the bumpers).

Most aftermarket systems connect via the reverse backup light (the white one)--ther're just spliced in so that the system is activated when the car is shifted into reverse which in turn activates the backup lights.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. Like I said, it was initially working when I took delivery. I reset the NAV home destination site so it wouldn't keep trying to send me down to Glendale or default to addresses in LA (I'm in the Sacramento area). Since then I get no audible indication that the backup sensors are working. I still get the normal signal indication when I shift into reverse, but I'm not getting the calibrated beeps or voice indicating the number of feet I have between the rear bumper and potential obstacles. The monitors may actually still be working and the sounder has just been turned off through operator ignorance.. but nothing I've tried so far has succeeded in restoring the function... or else it just decided to croak on me to spoil my otherwise sheer delight with this car. I'll take it in, hanging my head in shame... just thought others may have quick fix suggestion.
