Default External Mirror Adjustment

Just picked up a 2008 SC and very happy with it. While adjusting the external mirrors for me and my wife, I noticed that the operation of the passenger side mirror is sporadic in its operation. specifically it will not raise to the position I like while adjusting. A while later it will adjust just fine. One more thing that seems a bit off. the panel that houses the mirror adjustment to the dash just left of the steering wheel has a bit of play in it as opposed to being firmly attached to the dash.

any insight would be appreciated.

cheers

Guessing the following: issue 1 - the teeth in the gears that move the mirror are either out of sync or somewhat damaged so you get adjustability when the non damaged teeth are working and you get non adjustability when the damaged teeth are working. Verifiable if you can take apart of the housing and look at the teeth.

Issue 2: the panel housing may have broken tabs behind it so it is no longer snug and secure.

You can try pushing the top half of the mirror in, so it starts from a higher "Tilted up" position.

Just do it gently, so the gears don't get stripped out
