2002 SC 430 sound system
I have a 2002 Sc 430. I have one speaker out and thinking about replacing it. The head unit is OK . CD is acting up but does work. I would like to keep orginial. But not sure if buying refurbished is the way to go. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is it worth staying orginal or should I put a after market in it?
simplyspeakers.com rebuild kit. It's like arts and crafts from school only instead of paper paper mache it's a 21 year old lexus speaker cone. Lol. Actually isn't that hard and kind of fun to fix stuff. Removing the door panel takes a plastic pry tool and a philips head screwdriver.
I guess I should expand on my "pro stock system" position. The aftermarket setups are really expensive. You loose the door. You loose the steering wheel controls. You loose the automatic volume/fade feature where the system automatically rebalances the sound when the top is open or closed. It really is a magnificent system in my opinion. As far as your bad speaker goes? Without pulling the panel and checking it out, you could be looking at a replacement speaker, which are readily available on ebay, or maybe just a repair of the surrounds (https://www.simplyspeakers.com/lexus...fsk-sc430.html) which are guaranteed to be bad if they were not replaced previously.
What you don't get and is a main driving factor for many to replace their systems is Bluetooth, Aux Port etc. The old system is 2002 tech from Panasonic. It says Mark Levinson on it, but it's just a Panasonic. The OEM Speakers have a different impedance than almost all other systems. If you put a new speaker in, the impedance mismatch could cause some issues with the stock AMP. Just FYI. I love the old system and took great pains to restore it to perfect operation. But it's a call everyone has to make for themselves. ebay is the place though for all your replacement parts needed.

^^^ that, it's pretty much all you need to modernize the stereo. I usually like to throw aftermarket in too. But on Lexus it's annoying and $$$ due to the ml, the system running on different ohm. also you loose a lot of the factory functions as mentioned above. Also I really like the wooden panels in the car, it's very elegant and I surprisingly like the clean look when all the panels are closed and hides the screen + stereo. I mainly drive like that now and just use the steering wheel controls to adjust volume and change music on my phone. Anything aftermarket just looks so out of place on the SC for some reason so I want everything hidden and integrated into OEM. I do have new door speakers and sub cuz they were blown.
I had my 2002 SC 430 ML stereo brought back to factory specs. WHILE keeping all moving wood doors, all steering controls, original screen, new ML driver door speaker (you have to hunt for those), wireless apple car play, Bluetooth i phone, front and rear camera, and independent operating antenna worked by MY switch. Don’t ask the cost, BUT, damn it sounds great with the top down (and up too). Wednesday it goes for a major detail and ceramic coating. That will finally wrap up my (52,000 mi) jewel to new! I have had an SL 500, Corvette etc and this funny baby draws more attention than anything. I have a list of 3 people wanting to know when I sell it. Yes, we all know how that goes. I love ❤️ my drives in this little gem, who travels by the name WANDA. Have fun, stay safe and thanks for all the info this forum shares.
I had a strange rumble in the rear area with the top up. I am pretty good at finding rattles etc. I searched here and found post on tightening rear shelf, for Wanda it was 1 and 1/2 turns counterclockwise. Sound is GONE and I want to thank the member with this fix.
ps: I have someone working on a separate control for the rear windows. I will keep you all up to date
