Any recommendations for speakers to replace the original Mark Levinson's? Also, any experience using 4 ohm versus the original 8 0ohm? Thanks!

I'll let someone else explain the 4 ohm versus 8 ohm issue below.

But what I will say is that the OEM Speakers sound amazing and I have never understood why people change them out. Just an opinion and we know what those are worth today! 🤣

Thanks Paul. I have to replace them because one of the fronts and both rears appear to be blown. There are Kicker speakers which fit exactly, and I'm going to have Best Buy replace them. My only concern is blowing the amp due to the ohm difference.

Maybe its because I've never heard of the factory speakers unblown, however, I don't see how they will sound better than modern aftermarket speakers. The oem speakers are like 20 years old, and made of flimsy paper cones, nothing about it feels fancy or expensive. Spend about $100 for a set of new speakers will get you really good results. I hear a much wider and louder range of music than the oems ever did. This is on the stock amp too, I mean if you want to rewire the car and go full aftermarket you will get even better results. I might even upgrade the tweeters this year, but I haven't found a set that looks like will fit nicely in the oem tweeter covers.

Well maybe you do and maybe you don't.

We all end up where your at. For some reason, the original speaker surrounds rotted on all of our SC's. There is a ton of threads on this subject. Good luck whichever way you go.

Replacing the foam is suppose to be pretty easy and the results are drastic.
Amazon Amazon

I like the OEM speakers because a sound specialist matched the speakers to the acoustics of the car during the design phase. The best buy guy might be able to do that, but he only has the choice of speakers that his store sells.

There maybe doubt about whether the speakers were really designed for the car, but I believe if they were just looking for a cheap speaker, they would have gone with an 4 ohm system instead of a 8 ohm system.

This may be the best argument that I have ever heard for keeping the OEM system. BRAVO Sir! BRAVO!

They did go with 8 ohm not 4 ohm. That is the problem when you try to replace. the 6x9 is not easy to find in 8 ohm.

They did go within 8 ohm system rather than a 4-ohm system. The OEM is 8 ohm. That's the issue. They own speakers are not readily available.
