FS: black driver's seat
10 Attachment(s)
I bought this '97 SC300 driver's seat with the intention of installing it in my car, and while hemming and hawing over whether to replace my beloved handcrafted seat cover, decided to install a RX8 seat which fits me better.
I cleaned and conditioned all the leather bits with Leatherique, leaving them bagged up in the sun for 3-4 days to do its thing as thoroughly as possible. I also tried something new, going over the full seat cushion and half of the seat back with pure lanolin cream as an additional moisturizer/sealant. There's a tiny bit of residue still to be wiped off. You can see the difference in shininess on the seat back where I didn't go over spots yet. I figured I'll never find a stock seat skin in this good of shape, so I might as well hit it with everything I've got to keep it fresh for another two decades! The side bolster has a tiny bit of wear in the form of what are basically two deep creases. Other than that, there's really no wear and tear evident. The head rest is buttery soft, and the seat cushion is very supple. The seat back is a bit firmer (I think that must be by design on SC seats, as they're all that way from what I've seen), but will feel a lot softer when stretched over the foam backing. I removed the seat back frame/foam and everything below the seat pan to not have to deal with all that heft. I took a couple more hog rings out than needed on the bottom and replaced some of them with zip ties to hold the flaps in place. You'll see what goes where in comparing to your seat. The seat cushion will be a simple bolt-on affair. Having re-done my seats already, I know how fun that one is to get to the connections inside, so I wanted to avoid doing that again! The upper (seat back) skin will need to be fastened to your frame, but that one is much easier because you've got all the access points through the back. I'm not entirely sure what it's worth, considering the relative rarity of stock black seats, and how few on top of that are in such good shape. I'm thinking $200 + shipping/fees, but may come down to $150 if the interest isn't strong. I'm not an, "if you don't like it move along" type, so if you feel I'm high or low, I'm open to feedback. I did a quick FedEx estimate for shipping from west coast to east coast and it came in at $59, so figure that's the high end. Maybe $30-40 for closer locations, but $35 of that quote was for the large package size, so it may not be able to come down much from there. Edit: I would be willing to remove the lower skin to be able to roll it all up and significantly lower the shipping cost, but only if you agree to pay first as a commitment. There's no going back once I do that. I've also got most of the trim pieces to convert a seat to black. The big L-shaped front/side garnish will be awkward to ship, but at least it's all light. The only pieces I'm missing are the seat back cover (but I have the net), the two smaller control buttons, and the seat belt receptacle (kept it for the RX8). Let me know if interested. |
