What year cluster is this?
I'm looking at buying the car, and all sorts of funny things are turning up...
the front end has been repainted, Lexus.com lists the wrong type of tranny, and I'm not sure if that cluster really is the 1995/6 -- the car does have the 96/95 tails...
the joys of buying a car...
EDIT:
(maybe the color balance is off in the photo I was looking at)
oh yeah... and can't you just switch clusters to change the milage on an SC? that's why I'm asking... 'cause if it isn't the right year...

Probably not relevant but how come the gear selection lights are lit up at all. Thats the first thing I noticed and the second was that it looks like a 95/96 cluster. I just thought that it was weird that no lights were lit up for the gear selection. Even the P isnt lit up. If the cluster was changed the mileage wouldnt necessarily be the same as the old cluster. It would probably read the miles from the car it was taken from or it can be programmed to say whatever mileage a with the right equipment wants to program it to.

you'll know amber when you see it. the main thing is to watch the needle's. they are not interchangable for the mid 90's, they went to red and are wired backwards. you have to change the whole cluster to have red needle's..... the only reason why the amber and red are side by side in the pic up there is because i built the red SMD from scratch. (i'm the only one running red needle's in a 92-93
)

after 93 they went from the bright white needles/numbers to amber, such as in the 96...i dont remember what year they went back to bright white, maybe 98?
during the amber period, they used white sleeves, which makes it amber. You may think your cluster is amber, but a real amber cluster is AMBER with no chance at mistaking it. you'll be like...."that is amber".
Then when they went back to white, it was a whole new ballgame. Cold Cathode. no bulbs.
here is the rundown....
92-93....amber needles...amber background
94... amber needles...off white/amberish background
95-96(excusive years
)...red needles...off white background
97-00 amber needles...white background..brighter than 95-96..b/c of level of intensity!-
hope this helps...but 1lastry is the expert here...
cold cathode in the 97-00? that's news to me 1last!- what does it look like? and is it as bright and flouresccent as the ls 400(95 and up)
