Default Spice up your SC with a Euro look

I dont know if anyone is familiar with this but when I got my 95 SC400, the window posts were very badly chipped. I still cannot figure out to this day how they got that way with no other surrounding damage, but I digress. Anyway, I was going to sand them down, repaint, and clear them back to the gunmetal finish as original. However, lucky for me decided to strip them instead. The metal that lies beneath the paint is VERY nice polished steel - it looks like a mirror! I have lots of folks ask me where I bought the chrome window posts and I just wanted to share that.

Will post pics later

BTW, am looking for some replacement tan mats;

Mike in Dallas

Here is a pic:

I've seen this before along with torn weather stripping. I found it to be from the previous owner trying to unlock the door with a coat hanger through any available gap he could find in the door.

pic is posted in original post. Not sure what you might be referring to but my window posts were chipped all around and on both sides. Weather stripping on the car is virgin, looks perfect,

Interesting. I'm not sure about the look but I'll give you a thumbs up on your solution to the problem. Looks a little like a CLK with the chrome ring around the windows.

Some of the other SC owners have put the fake carbon fiber over that part. Replacing the part can be costly too. Couple hundred bucks.

I think it gives it a "Targa Porsche" look. Maybe I'll get tired of it and paint it as I had originally planned but it kind've grows on you. Seems like it might be a nice accent if it had chrome wheels also

nope, no swirls; the part is either a polished stainless or other polished metal of some sort. It is like a mirror though and fingerprints very easy. I was going to remove it but had one fastener I couldnt get at so to save time, I taped and papered off the area VERY well and used paint stripper on it. I then took a wood stirring stick and scraped the dead paint/stripper away so as not to scratch the metal. Wahed it all down with soap and water to nuetralize any residual stripper and what you see is what I got.

Materials may vary from model to model but I would be surprised if every 95 model didn't have this polished metal underneath the paint.

good luck with it and be careful with the stripper

Looks good, It would probably look best wirh mirrored windows. Just so it all blends and flows together.

Where have I heard that before??...

Not my preference, but looks good. I'd much rather have a full blackout on my window trim, ala 2.5TT.

NICE!!! So have you taken closeups yet? The chips can come from rings on fingers closing the door. Paint shops will set you back about $364 to repaint because the door needs to be taken apart, the new pillars are about $600 each. The carbon fiber doesn't "exactly" cover the pillar, and these answers have been a topic on previous threads. Some SC suffer more than others with the chipped pillars. It does look very nice! I'd even be happy if someone could give a brand and color for touchup paint.
