1993 SC300 climate control fan low speed
So... I picked up a 1993 SC300 with 100k on it for very little money - the only real downside is that the AC does not work and needs a conversion to 134a (this is not an issue)
i have an issue that the fan only really blows one speed - that is barely blowing at all (so even when i do fix the AC the cold air will barely circulate. If it were only blowing on high i would instantly assume that it was the blower motor resistor however i almost the opposite problem. once turning the fan on at minimum it blows - increasing the fan speed then has no effect on the actual speed of the fan. I have seen one thread on this with zero replies, so i figured i'd try again. Does anyone have any ideas where i might start with this? Thanks Scarby |
Damn. I have the opposite problem. Maybe be only blows on high. Lol |
Is the Climate control unit in that car the OEM? I have heard of different year climate controls cause some stuff like this, saw it in an old tanin video i believe.

To Scarby and Blackiron so I swapped my climate control from another car I got it from junkyard. I’m not sure what year it is. But I still have my original one that came with my car. Just Incase it didn’t work. The only problem with my old climate control was the screen was all faded to black. So when I swapped the new unit in. The heat and cold air works. But only at very fast fan speed. Even if you turn down fan speed or turn it up same problem. So I see you sent me this part for a blow motor resistor. Where is this part on the car? Becuz I have two parts cars so I can just pull it from one of them and be good hopefully. Get back to me guys. Thanks |
Take a look at this thread that deals with fan speeds and the interior resistor. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...n-speed-3.html

Ok... So don't change the resistor. The issue it seems is that the control unit in your car is expecting something different to what is actually there. Today I fixed my issue and was able to adjust fan speed. Immediately after that I dropped in the temperature control from a 95 (because it had a good screen. Immediately the fan only blows on full speed (afaik in later models they dropped the resistor all together). So I guess the solution is to put the 93 controls back in the 93 car or compare wiring diagrams and work out what you need to do to make the wiring compatible. Personally I'm going to see if I can disassemble the 93 unit and change the screen.
