97+ HID Foglight conversion specific question
 

Hey guys, i just refinished my fog lights and i've been trying to match the hids that i have to the fogs and im not finding any halogens that are anywhere near the same color (5500k) so may have to bite the bullet and do an HID conversion for the fogs as well.
With that being said i got a few questions which will dictate if i will be doing the conversion.
Is anyone using HID bulbs in the stock housing WITHOUT a projector and can give me some info on it? Does it work, does it still provide any usable light, are you blinding other drivers, etc.
I know doing a projector retrofit would be the ideal way to go but i have found very little information on this. I did find a couple of threads pertaining to the earlier year fogs and one that did a retrofit from an ES foglight but the ES lenses are yellow and the whole point of going hid for me is to get rid of the yellow light. So im wondering if anyone has done any projector conversions on the 97 fogs and if you guys can give me some info on what projectors you used and how much it cost you.

Any info would be appreciated.
PS. im putting this into the SC form not the Lighting forum because the issue im having is specific to the SC not a general lighting issue. I posted this thread in the performance and maintenance section but it didnt seem to get any views or replies so im trying it here before i pull the trigger into uncharted territory.

I too wanted a better match for my HID headlights and found the best way was to install a set of LED projectors I found on eBay that fits perfectly in the stock fog lights. Not much modification for a perfect fit. Even wired it up to use the stock connections. The output is quite bright and not blinding to on coming traffic.
I did not take any pics of the components or process.
They are lots of H3 LED bulbs out there that should fit the stock fog light housing.
I have since rewired the fog lights to the Halo rings in the high beams using a SPDT relay to run as long as the car is running.

Do you feel the fog lamp front glass interferes with your projectors cutoff line? I can see a lot of glare happening real quick even with the projector trying to keep it flat.
