What is a good ECU price

I found a used 1997 lexus sc400 and the seller says it needs a new ECU chip and I was wondering what is a good price for a new and used ECU chip. Also if you could recommend me to a good place to get one.

Wrong forum. You want to post it here.

Ecu chip? If the car needs a new ecu, you can pull one out of a junk yard for about $30 or so.
i would. I’d rather go buy the 30$ ecu plug it in and see if it runs and drives, before I buy the car, just to make sure that’s the problem.
Good luck!

^^ As mentioned above, Sutton... you don't replace a chip in the ECU, you just swap in a good ECU. For testing purposes by all means just throw in any known good 1997 SC400 ECU.

For the long term however you should use any 1997 SC400 ECU that has had capacitor repair service performed. Also you can always send in the bad ECU in for inspection (or inspect it yourself with care not to introduce static discharge to the electronics inside) in case its circuit boards are still in good shape despite needing new capacitors.

Here's a link to a thread that should explain the ECU situation thoroughly and keep you busy reading for days:

There are members here who rebuild ECU's for a reasonable price. Welcome to the forum.
