Question

 I'm new to the japanese autos. Ive always owned german vehicles. I just sold my Bmw 850i and promised myself I would never buy another BMW. Ive owned 6. They are not reliable.
I like the sc400 and found one for sale but I'm not to familiar with these cars. I've heard good things about them and most of all they are reliable. The car I looked at and test drove was a 93 sc400 with 82k. The owner is the third owner. It has the naki. sound system. The color is dk blue with tan leahter. He has owned it since 99 with 68k on it. He has most of the records since new. he had a pre purchase done on it when he bought it. the left front fender has been repainted to near perfect. It needs a set of tires, it has about 4 door dings on the passenger side. everything works. He changed the oil every 5k with mobile 1.
I also asked him if he has had any problem with the power steering pump "he said no". He replaced the battery and brakes. I saw a dealer ticket for the air-conditioner from one of the previous owners. The inside looks very clean, a little wear on the drivers seat. the car doesn't have traction or heated seats. If the car passes a good pre purchase inspection done by me what price is a good price to offer him? It pulls to the right a little, that may be coming from the tires. I can't think of anything else about it. If there is anything else I need to ask please let me know. Thank for your help and advice. I hope to join you shortly with a new sc400.

Thumbs up Purchasing an SC

Brian: As you know, there are a lot of sources for determining the value of an automobile - I've owned a '92 SC400 since Nov. 1992 and was recently considering a newer model (only because of the age of the car) - when I checked into the values, what I found was disappointing to me - although, great for a buyer. Edmunds had my car at 11,072 trade-in, 12,383 private party, and 14,568 dealer retail. My SC has everything except the Nak. The Dallas paper today has several 400's from 11k to 14k. I'd think that 11-12 would be reasonable and if you can it for less - so much the better. I owned 2 BMW 5-series myself and although they're great driver's cars - they aren't close to the SC when it comes to reliability - don't look as good either, IMHO. Incidently, since my 400 (w/69k mi) is worth so little to sell- I decided to keep it! It's been a great car and still is (for another 50-80k miles or so) - good luck!
