Default Throwback Review: Autoweek's Custom Lexus SC300 Build

Throwback Review: Autoweek's Custom Lexus SC300 Build
By Brett Foote

There once was a time when a major magazine decided to build a custom Lexus SC300. And then they drove it across the country!

I forgot how I ended up with these. I know I posted them up on here at least a year or so ago. But here they are again. It's a review of the exact car they built with more photos and some specs

This appears to be a feature in Turbo and High Tech Performance magazine back in July 1994

That's an incredible build for the early 1990's. I wonder if the car is still around and what happened to it.

What bodykit is that? Looks like front bumper is stock and just painted silver on the bottom "lip" area but what about the rest of it?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the added aftermarket sunroof to what was a hardtop SC. The seats very much appear to be cloth as well.

MOMO Ideas

They used to be sold on TireRack as late as the early 2000s.
I had no idea that wheel design was in production as long as it was. This article is from 1994 and these wheels were available new in 2004. 10 years is an amazingly long time for a wheel design.

The covers you see on the spokes were removable. People used to paint match them to their car. I think you got a couple colors to choose from. I remember seeing yellow, red, blue, black, white, and in the early 2000s, carbon fiber

Wondered why the body kit looked so familiar, I have been contemplating on getting one sans the spoiler, as I'll use my stock 96 one. Mostly made out of fiberglass with some poly parts. That is the only set back about it, but price is right and not so radical as some body kits are. Also would have to drive to Reno Nevada area to avoid shipping cost.
