Default SC 400 1998-2000 admirer

This is my first post. I read the rules for posting, but it was so much information I couldn't remember everything, so please forgive me if I do something incorrectly. I will try my best. I owned an SC 400 1996 for 12 years. It was black with tan interior. I purchased it in 2000. It had 44K miles on it. When I sold it, the total miles was up to 400K, With the original transmission. I loved the car. I am hoping to buy another one, black on black 1998-2000, low mileage in pristine condition. I would really take care of it and would not want to put that many miles on it. My name is Frank. I am sold on Lexus. I think it's the best built car on the road. I will try my best to be a respectful member. I hope my post is written in the correct section. If not, please let me know. If anyone has any information on the SC 400 I am looking for, please let me know. Thank you very much.

Welcome and good luck finding the perfect car that you're looking for. It might take some time, it's not unheard of to see people spending months or even years finding "the one", but it sure is satisfying when you do.

It may take some time but be patient, look around. There a few around the country if you're willing to pay the expense but if you're looking for something clean (stock perhaps?) then just give it some time. You'll find that sweet SC and it'll put a massive grin on your face as always!

Welcome to CL! Just keep focused on your goal and keep looking! The right car will present itself to you if you are determined. 1998-2000 SC400's were lower production than all other model years of the SC400 so it will be a smaller number of potential cars you will be looking through. The time it may take is unpredictable but you will certainly find the right car, ihavefun!

Thank you all so very much for your positive feed back and support. I really appreciated!!! I tried going to the classifieds for SC 400 on this website, but I don't know how to narrow the search down to just SC 400's. Can anyone advise me on how to do that? I feel so stupid asking that question. Sincerely Frank

location based search and ctrl+f would be the easiest way. there arent enough listings of cars here to warrant going back more than 2 or 3 pages. use the filter option at the bottom of the page and use ctrl+f to find the car. best place is still craigslist or autotrader tho

Is your heart set on a 98-00 SC?. It might be easier to find a 01+ SC430 which have the newer 1UZ motor as well and a hard top convertible.

Hi Frank, you might want to also check out the ads on Craigslist as well in various areas. There are SC's listed on there, you might find something that catches your eye. Best wishes friend !

You can go to hell for such heresy and blasphemy!!! The SC430 is #1 on my list of worst Toyota products of the past 30 years.

Ah yes, the 98+ SC400, a beautiful engine with VVT-i and a five speed transmission. It almost feels like a completely different vehicle than a pre 98 400, different gear ratios, different transmission, different power delivery and a few extra features. As everyone else said, take your time and it will take time. There are only 2,400~ SC400s made in those years so you won't find many of those in the country. It took me about a year or so till I found mine but it was worth it. You seem to appreciate these cars and I think it will be in good hands. I wish you good luck and happy hunting!

I think the SC430 gets a lot of bad rep, especially after the whole Top Gear review. Honestly I must say, in the beginning I despised them, even to a point where I wouldn't even acknowledge them as part of the SC/Soarer family but seeing them on the street I've started to really appreciate them day by day. It has a nice soft design and I'm really starting to appreciate their interiors. I still think they don't fit in the grand tourer category as the previous generations did, when you look at the SC400 and SL500 of the same era you can tell that these are GT cars but the same case does not hold when you look at the SC430 and SL500 of the same era. Clearly the 2001 - 2008 Mercedes SL looks like a proper GT car while the SC430 looks like a fun convertible. Of course this is just my opinion but I think as a car to it's own, the SC430 is not as bad as it may seem.
