Car does look sweet, except for minor blemishes like scratches and burns in the seats, radiator shroud is a little off, aside from what I’m seeing it’s all minor, if you can talk the seller down a little it would be a steal, it’s a still a great price if he doesn’t move on it, and you’re keeping it long term you better hurry !!!

If you like red then get the car.... Seems you have done your homework and got a trusted mechanics view so pretty low risk.... The price is not that steep given the condition. If it was on the West Coast (and not red) I would be tempted......

I agree with all the things gerrb said. I bought my 98 SC300 with 122K miles here in CA for $6k. All stock. I am the 3rd owner. Exterior looks great. Interior is also in good condition. Just normal wear and tear. Right after i got it, I spent $2k in maintenance and another $2500 on wheels and suspension. So now I'm at $10,500 on it. Do i wish I got it for cheaper? Yes. Do i wish I was the 2nd owner? Yes. But here in cali, i think the SC's are either gems or trashed. At least from what I've seen in craiglist. I was willing to pay for this gem 5 months ago and this is where I'm at.

A car , like the SC is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it . It's worth depends on who is buying it and what they want to do with the car. Some will value it's originality , physical condition and mileage and are willing to pay for those factors and will just leave the car as it is through their ownership.
Not that the car wasn't worth it , it was just that no one was willing to pay for it at the price it was advertised. .
If you start on a high priced SC , don't ever expect to get back your investment. It is not gonna happen.

I just bought my 97 SC300 for a GREAT bargain. Under $2500.00, that very very closely resembles what you just posted. Like stated above, it depends on what YOU think is fair.

Yes indeed. It brings me great joy to stare and drive my car twice a week. I never realized how much money I put in the car until I tallied each and every expense. I'm just 2 pieces away from calling it a day though. Clazzio seats covers and Tanabe exhaust.

If you are the type to pay top dollar for everything, it looks clean. No its not a “good deal”. I’ve seen people pay more for less, but if you have the scratch buy it, go on. These numbers on a 20 year old car in 2017 are ridiculous to me, but we are enthusiasts so we do what we do.
when you start talking 8k i start thinking 2GS

2JZ-GTE Supra>1JZ-GTE Soarer>2JZ-GTE 2nd gen Aristio>Lexus SC300/400>Lexus 2nd gen GS300/GS400>1st gen Aristio 2JZ-GTE(1st Gen Aristio/Lexus GS is major ugly IMO)
Just saying I'd rather have the 2 door Lexus SC, even if it is more $$$$ than a 2nd Gen GS, styling is better.

This mentality of "the car should only be worth this much/you shouldn't pay more than this" is what's keeping prices subdued on the 1st gen SC.
These cars are getting harder and harder to find in truly clean condition. More power to the guys that are willing to pay up for a clean example of a classic.
To all the SC owners saying this or that car is overpriced - shame on you, you're only shooting yourselves in the foot.
