In the interest of a mint-looking engine compartment.
A light wet sand w/ 400 grit or buff it w/ steel wool. Then apply a good metal polish.

um, I'd say don't use steel wool - it will leave litle bits of steel on the surface which will turn to little rust spots - if the corrosion is light, wet-dry sandpaper and light oil may be all you need. You can get good aluminum polish at marine stores like West Marine.

<edit> oh yeah, regarding the subject of this thread, I have one word for that gorked-up SC on ebay:

GAAAAACK!

Its an emery sand paper (looks black) that you needs to get wet before sanding, then keep wet as you are sanding. If not, it makes a lot of dust and clogs itself instantly. Look for it in the bondo section of the auto parts store. Its looks and acts just like regular sand paper, cept for being black and needing water.

It makes a very nice and smooth polish on hard surfaces (body panels, bondo, metals, etc.)

You can also use it to polish plastics, and remove scratches in paint (assuming to have a buffer to polish up). It comes in all different coarses up to 2000 grit (at least that I know of). Its a body shop essential.

Only the cheap stuff. They have stainless thats a hell of alot more durable but does cost more. Don't use the steel wool from under the sink or for refinishing wood, as that stuff does break apart and will stain. Get a high quality stainless or brass (copper works too, but its soft and can smear copper leaving the color behind). They can be found in industrial supply stores and chemical supply catalogs.

Good luck.

Post Lowered price to $17K

I guess $20k was too much for the asking price, so he lowered to an afforadable price of $17K

Ok, i got a set of wet or dry sandpaper (3M) various grit ratings from 220- all the way to 1500. Tommorow im just gonna try it out and try to get my block to look cleaner. Ive decided not to use a polish or anything, just wetsanding and wipe to get clean is all.

Good luck, its not hard, but always keeep too much water on it when your sanding. I would get the hose out and have it run a little bit of water non stop while you are sanding. Get a wood block or a rubber block so you are pressing with a flat surface. Don't just use the paper in your hand. Always sand in the same direction and go lengthwise for best results. When sanding metal, the paper wears out quickly, so change often.

I hope I don't sound like I'm telling you what to do, I'm just passing on lessions I've learned in the past.

... and the only area I really did was the top of the block right behind the lexus script and "L", all those ribs. I must say the two wires from the traction control box made the job very difficult.
