I cut mine out on my race prepped SC
very flimsy. I had to go back and put aluminum stiffeners back on it just to hold shape at speed. The majority of the weight is in the front edge since there are 4 layers sandwiched there. Overall weight savings was probably a little over 20 lbs maybe a little under with the addition of the aluminum channels. But, I have the original safety latch and hood pins so I am not concerned about the safety aspect. You just have to decide if having rivets in your hood is worth the weight savings. I would never do that on my street car but could care less on the race car.
Interesting side note, The first time I went out and tried with the hood stripped but no stiffeners the hood bowed up about 4 inches in the middle from air pressure under the car. It just lets you know how much pressure is created from the air coming under or through the car. I have not gotten to it yet but due to this I want to build a splitter and pan under the car to try to reduce uplift.
