Default Replace '98 SC300 with '14 GS350

I've been admiring the 4th gen GS' for over a year now & I've come across an opportunity to pick one up at a pretty good price. I think I may have outgrown my SC (this is my 2nd one; sold the first one, regretted it & bought this one). I've had it for 5 years & haven't had major problems with it other than it getting hit in parking lots & vandalized by jacka$$es. Anyone out there regretting buying a newer Lexus model?

I see them as completely different cars not only in category but in terms of how they provide driver connectedness.

Also, I'm biased but I feel the SC, especially the year you have, just looks timelessly beautiful compared to the pictured GS (not that the GS is bad looking... it's just not on the same level of being a timeless shape).

I don't see a newer GS as a replacement for an SC300 or SC400. Even an SC430 isn't a real replacement for one due to it being so very different in every way other than having a two-door RWD 2+2 layout (or really 2+1 in the case of the SC430). A '14 GS is a good car and to the right prospective buyer possibly a great car. It's just not the same car.

Being in Hawaii it is unfortunate there are even stricter anti-modification laws than in California. Ultimately I feel changing the drivetrain in a 92-00 SC is the biggest thing to shift one's opinion of it. Alternatively you could try to find a 1998-2000 SC400 even though they are fairly rare. That would be the same car but a significant jump in power and torque from your SC300.

However... if you really find yourself liking the style of the '14 GS inside and out and its creature comforts and the manner in which it allows you the driver to interact with not only its interior but also the road... it may be closer to what you actually like. If so, I say go for it.

My personal feeling is that the first generation SC's are very unique cars and that it's better to keep one and just supplement it with another vehicle entirely be it of the same type of driver oriented car or something else entirely.

Whatever you decide be honest with yourself when driving both cars. Or *another* entirely different make or model. NO car will be perfect and there will be compromises with even the best models. The question is really which one puts a smile on your face every time you drive it no matter what those compromises are. We're on an internet sub-forum for this particular model that we generally love but everyone has their own preferences and several SC owners don't have just an SC which is testament to both how much they grow on us but also how sometimes other either newer or different automobiles are also needed in our lives in addition to the ones we really get attached to.

Do what is best for you. Just be honest about what actually makes you happy

Totally different cars. If you need the extra doors, the newer safety/electronic features, and manufacturer warranty, then by all means go for it.

Otherwise is the payment + (probably) higher insurance worth it over what you have now.

Default Maybe the IS200T F Sport instead...

Thanks for your input. I actually test drove the GS...hated it. Definitely better feeling in my SC. I dunno, I love my SC but at the same time I feel as if I want something newer & more convenient (4 doors). And I'm not looking forward to all the upcoming replacement/repairs that will inevitably have to happen (I had a '93 SC300 in way worse shape than this one so I understand the costs, lol). I know that once I let go of my SC there's no turning back since it is almost impossible to find one here in good shape so I'm kinda going back & forth on it. Was just wondering if anyone "jumped ship" to another model Lexus & realized it was a bad idea. I've jumped ship to Acuras, Scions, Toyotas & Hondas & came back to this car.
After I test drove the GS I tried the IS200T F sport. I actually like it. Nebula Grey ext w/Red interior...pretty fancy.

Everyones different and will have their own likes/dislikes. I personally just bought a sc300 because I missed mine. It being my first car ever owned made it stick with me. So I plan on completely building the car into what I have always wanted. When it's done I'm getting rid of my 335i.

If finances aren't a issue I say try out the new car your urging for. Til the point where you decide on what to do with the lexus.
