Default 245/50r16 vs 225/55r16

Any one else running a similar sized tire?

I just picked up 4 new tires in this size. I do not take the car to any competitive events. I just drive normal. I plan on maybe buying some 2nd gen ls400 wheels some time to allow for LS400 brakes.

Anyway so far it feels really smooth less road noise and just smoother all around I think its a great compromise.

225/55r16 vs 245/50R16

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
225/55-16 4.9in 12.9in 25.7in 80.9in 783 0.0%
245/50-16 4.8in 12.8in 25.6in 80.6in 786 -0.4%

smaller tire = faster take off

When opting to different tire sizes you must always remember that you can affect ABS function & speedo by doing so. So stock tire size is 225/55 R16 to keep proper diameter & go to a wider tire you would go to the 245/50 R16 as the wider a tire goes in a certain size the smaller the diameter gets. This is all due to the way tires are measured & classified by the manufacture. (I worked making tires many moons ago)

So **** poor decision or good decision ?

I took some consideration before I made the purchase the tire rep did not disagree with me so IDK...

My ABS has not kicked on I hear no rubbing nor noises coming from the new tires.

I feel like its a great option ! Wider track on the the tread and a slight decrease in overall diameter.
I've relocated to hillbilly land and having a stock truck is suspect having a diesel with carbon spewing out of a 7 inch fart cannon and 33 inch tires is not suspect.
I'm going for a sleeper look (although sleeper would imply a fast car) with minor modifications hence why I am keeping the 16inch wheel size and probably picking up some ls400 wheels in the future when brakes are needed.

You made the correct decision. I may also opt to the same size just to get a wider tire, with out rolling my fenders, & to keep that stock look. Don't worry about the hillbillys, I've lived with them all my life, just keep a truck around to fool them.

He I just looked under the car for the first time and saw that the splash gaurd on the driver side is worn out and chewing some of the wires up . I think its from having worn struts and bottoming out .

When I go TEIN BASIS I doubt I'll lower it beyond the highest setting.

While it may affect the accuracy of your speedometer, it's barely by a percentage point, probably not particularly noticeable and quite likely within the tolerance of factory accuracy, anyway.

ABS wise, as long as all 4 tires are the same ABS and Traction control shouldn't particularly care aside from the normal leverage changes which affect braking in general. Changing outside diameters is more of a concern on cars that have differing sizes from front to back from the factory, like an Acura NSX, where you have to get the ratio just right or the TC gets all sorts of ticked off.

Well, guess you'll have to relocate your wiring, this has to be done when you lower the car any way. Do you have the 50's mounted on the stock 16" rims? A 50 really isn't that much wider than a 55, only about 1"
