Can't Open the 2nd Gen. Tail Lights

i put my 95-96 tail lights in the over@250degrees for 5 minutes repeatedly and tried to open it but no luck.
Then i used a heat gun and heated section by section and still wouldn't open.
One of the section that i tried to pry open is kinda deformed now.
i think i kept on trying to bend it out while it was hot and now its kinda staying that way.
i'll try to heat it back up and bend it back to its normal shape.

can you guys give me more details on how to open that thing.
i did a search but all it says is it'll open easily after its heated.
help please.
thanks.

looks like my ex taillights are giving you problems eh? :egads:

Maybe I kept them at too good of a condition...:eek1:

That sucks man...just give them to me! :D

Really, they shouldn't be that hard. I think there's a screw on the back. Too bad I don't have them anymore, I can help you a lot more.

Good Luck with them.

OneHotSC i think u superglued them b4 u gave them to me to give me a hard time:D

AcleanSC, i took off most of the screws that shud've came off, except for that middle one that i dont think holds anything.
***maybe thats why they're not coming off

question tho for those who cleared the lights.
when u take apart the lights, should the spot u heated like the black part, etc. be in the exact shape as if u didn't take them off?
mine are kinda bending up and can't get it back to the regular shape.
headache*

thanks.

hey took me forever to clear out my passenger side lights. the heat gun didnt help any. use the oven trick and you do have to take that last screw out thats what holds it together. good luck. i still have to do the driver side now. just keep at it. let us know how it works out.

Aznteazer Apr 5, 2003 02:03 AM

is the black plastic piece bent in any way?

ACleanSC4 Apr 5, 2003 03:13 AM

For me when I cleared my set, if you heat it just right, the black trim will not bend way out of shape.

It is only when you use a heatgun (which gives direct heat to only a certain spot) will it bend out of shape. Try keeping it in the oven at around 250-300 for a bit longer than usual and keep trying to pull apart at one side.

Here are some pictures of what mine looked like when I opened them:

Ya just be patient and keep it in the oven just a little bit longer and start opening as soon as you take it out. If you bend it a bit its ok and when you're done with everything just keep it in the oven a bit longer but dont over cook it and when you take it out push it back in shape and hold it there. Its actually not that hard just take your take.

i just put them on to see how they fit but they're not done yet
......i didn't really close them tight enuf to fit perfect
gotta heatgun some sections and fit them more properly.
the light bulbs aren't in yet, but it'll look the same cuz the bulbs will be clear LED ones
this picture reminds me i still haven't debadged my car yet, sigh*
OneHotSC you gave my car a facelift

the thing i noticed between the 1st gen is that the 2nd gen lights stick out a little more.
i put them side by side and the 1st gen is a little slimmer

One HoT Apr 16, 2003 05:59 PM

:D I'm honored to give your car an extra lift..

Your car looks great Aznteazer! :p

Did you purposely put your exhuast angled like that? Wouldn't they look better if they pointed straight out?

Aznteazer Apr 16, 2003 06:07 PM

i had it angled like that long time ago when it wasn't much of a trend.
i'm thinking of putting my stocks back on, now that so many cars have them...(exhaust, not the lights)
for fun, i think i'm gonna open up my stock tail lights(1st gen) and try to clear them out:p
