97+ Sideskirts on 92
Hey guys,
I am getting a pair of 97+ side skirts to put on my 92 SC400. I noticed that there's a side moulding that runs from behind the front wheel well all the way to the front of rear wheel well on my SC. Would that have to be removed for the side skirts to be mounted onto the car? |
Yes! The two smaller mounding need to be removed. You have 3 total on each side, 2 small ones and 1 long one that is your door moulding.
Are you getting the +97 door mouldings also? If you don't get the +97 door mounding you will have this weird gap between the button of the doors and the top of the side skirts. |
I didn't get the 97+ moulding, didn't know about it. Here's a pic of a 92 with 97+ sideskirts. Which moulding are you referring to??

Here are my +97 door mouldings. They are wider than the pre 97 models.
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...057bbcdff3.jpg Installed on my car with Shine Sides, notice no gap along the the bottom of door where it meets side skirt: https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...0cff2a402a.jpg Example of one without the +97 door mouldings, it has the pre 97 door mouldings on, check out the gap that runs along the bottom of the door mouldings. You won't have that with +97 ones. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...3f03e407cb.jpg |
Ah, you're talking about the door moulding. I plan to just leave the existing moulding on the door just to have something in the gap. Plus, I didn't want to just yank the existing moulding and have holes showing along the bottom of the door.

The +97 will cover the gap and there won't be any holes showing. Pay close attention to the ones installed on mine.
I don't have the 97+ door mouldings, and have JIC Magic sides. I meant to buy some before it went to the body shop a few months ago but I never found any for sale sadly. |
BTW, what brand is the lip on your rear bumper. That's not a 97+ bumper is it?

I have a 95 with the 97 skirts, and there's a small gap but it looks pretty natural IMO. I used the two screws by the jack mounting points in the front to fasten the bottoms.

I see, that's really nice! I was hoping to find just a lip that can be bolted onto the bottom of the 92 SC400. Also, just to be sure, is the molding at the bottom of the door glued on or is it also fastened onto the door? If just glued on the door, I was just going to remove them and live with the gap temporarily. I am worried about exposing holes at the bottom of the doors.

It's not a lip. It's a Shine Auto Project complete rear bumper.

The door mouldings have clips on them and clip onto existing holes on bottom of the door.

Thanks for clarifying this. I will just leave the old door mouldings on til I can find 97+ door mouldings when I get some extra cash. I've seen some photos of the pre-97 door mouldings with 97+ skirts and eventhough there are still some gaps, it isn't a major eye-sore to me at least.

Keep an eye out for the moulding in the SC300/400 Classifieds or contact Aliga. He comes up on cars all of the time and is a great resource for parts. Juan |
Been buying parts from Aliga, great seller!
