Default Head unit is missing, easiest way to tell if system is Nakamichi or Pioneer?

Previous owner let his son drive the car for a bit and the son put in his own system. He did a terrible job of it and right now I'm just trying to figure out what all he did wrong to it before I go out and buy some new parts for it.

There's no head unit so I can't see it to compare differences. I've taken apart the trunk linings and checked the CD changer/amp/sub for logos but I couldn't see anything. Any suggestions?

if the amp is gone it may be easier just to put an aftermarket one in anyways

The bottom of the sub will be stamped with whichever brand it is. At least, my Pioneer sub said Pioneer on the bottom. You'll need to either remove it or use a mirror to see the bottom. Or, you might be able to slip your phone in there and snap a picture.

Well good news and bad news. Figured out it's a Pioneer system as thats what was under the amp. Bad news is the Sub seems to have been replaced with a "Power Bass" something or another. So it means they prolly rewired most of the stuff and that means I'm going to have to take the car apart to figure out what.

Thanks though guys for the help. Least I got somewhere to start.

I wouldn't assume that. You could drop in a new (better) sub with the stock wiring and amps easier than you could upgrade the amps to work with the stock sub. The easiest way to tell would be to look for clipped wiring below the speaker amp and CD changer on the right side of the trunk. That's where people usually bypass the stock configuration.

Well I know they didn't use stock wiring because the kid had put in his own amp along with the sub. I not sure how they wired it thus why I said take it apart. As of right now I just want to get it all working so I can have something to listen to.

If I were you I would just put a stock unit back in it's place. BTW, I have an extra Lexus SC Pioneer stock radio in good shape with all the wiring pigtails that I would consider selling. I also have the complete center console surround trim piece with all the cup holders, ashtray, volume controls etc. If you are interested just LMK and I can send you pics/info on the items.
