The car is for sale near me. Do you like the LH wheels? If not, offer 7K without the wheels (if he says no to 7K with them).
I emailed the guy. Seems OK to me.

I'm ok with or without the wheels but not sure he has a second set might be a thought. Do you think it's worth 9-10k from a private party? I'm more about paying a fair market price then an irrational decision based on wanting the car even if only 1-2k.

It's not worth 9-10k.
Without even seeing the car I can tell you that.

i wouldn't even pay 7k for it.

the money spent is almost in MK4 supra territory, for a NA motor.

It is pricey for $10k but I guess the owner probably knows how rare the 97 5 speed SC are so it is priced as though he doesn't want to let go of it. There is one in AZ and one in CA for $6500. Surely getting rare, probably not even 60 of them still in good shape so more likely their prices will start to go up .

It will be tough to find a 5 speed MKIV with NA motor.for $10k .. You will be even lucky if you will find a MKIV Auto NA at that price. I don't see it happening now. Even mere MKIV shells are selling above $10k especially 6 speed.

i was expecting maybe a 15k price tag, for a NA mk4 supra. for 10, i'd understand not being able to get a good deal.

but putting 3-5k on top of spending 10k for a 90's car isn't really that much. that money totally justifies getting a mk4, in my opinion.

Agreed 10k is to high if I could get for 7k I can rationalize it because it is rarer and almost perfect 10k isn't reality we shall see what happens

This is from the ad...

Always garage kept since purchased. All electronics and accessory features are in perfect working order. OEM Timing belt, radiator, water pump, spark plugs, cap, wires, and belts changed in 2013. Upgrades: Greddy stainless steel cat-back exhaust, custom Kooks stainless headers, cat delete, Supra TT front brake calipers and slotted rotors, stainless steel brake lines, Tein coilover suspension, 19" Leon Hardaritt Orden wheels, Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 tires front and rear. HID headlights, ACT clutch, Fidanza light weight flywheel. Greddy shift ****. I have all service records, manuals and parts receiptss
That's a decent amount of maintenance/add ons. We all know how pricey that stuff is. I don't like the wheels, but they are over 3 grand.... I'd resell them for something I'd prefer. Also he's got stock audio, so nothing's been tinkered with which is a plus imo. I don't know how hard headers are to install on the 300 but on the 400 it aint easy. His pictures show the car looking very clean. Could be one of the cleanest 97 five speeds out there. All quality. Pricey, but most the other's I've seen are banged up bad asking $5,000....with no history. Personally I'd go for a 2000 SC400 but that's what I want.

I'd pay that for the car if I had to. I'd try for less as I always do. It's an enthusiasts car. I just did most of that to my two Sc's and It costs 3 times what you are actually paying for these upgrades. You can get 2-3 grand back for those wheels alone.
If you want to save money, find a clean 95' and don't pay the 1 of 120 tax. If you like unicorns, this is an awesome one!

Headers and lightweight flywheel! Yummmmmmmm!

I'm surprised no one has said offer him 5k and that's it. The SC section is usually filled with people with low-ballers. It just comes down to preference, if you have your heart set on a 97, pay it because you probably won't find another one. If you just want a manual SC, there are others, but even the older ones tend to go for more than NADA and KBB says because the sellers usually know these are rare cars that people want. Personally, I think the difference of 1-2k more is a small price to pay for a car that you really want that isn't something you run across all the time, but that's just me.

^ tell me about it. I think $10k is more than a fair price for a car with all those mods. I'd likely pay close to $10k for a pristine '97 5spd myself, but thats just me.
I dont look at it as buying a "90s car", I look at it more as "I'm buying something I know I'm gonna love and dont have to worry about it dying for a good long time". $10k is a great price for a car that you know will last you a decade
