Default Rant! Fing Sunroof

So this is my third sunroof I've had cracked on me. Not sure how it's happening. Can this sh¡t be so frail!!!

I torque the nuts down to one number less in torque spec... Check then for the first few weeks and nothing... Cleaned the car today and discovered a single line crack!!!!

Any way to help prevent this BS!!?!?!?!

What are you torquing it to? I looked through the FSM (BO-83) and don't see any torque numbers specified for the sunroof. My nuts were pretty loose (oh, geez...) when I lifted the glass out recently, so I didn't tighten them down much when putting it back in. I haven't noticed any problems since, but now you've got me thinking I should go check for cracks...

Dont know if your doing this or not. But I hear you should never spray water on it on a hot days, thats one cause to make it crack.

I understand that concept, but the car is always stored in the garage if its not being driven, and I always wash the car in the evening (an hour before sunset) due to summer heat is "less" during that time.

Everytime I see it.....

Could be the track system is worn & applying pressure to it where its not designed for & breaking it.

I live in Florida where we get 95 degree weather, tropical sun and ran almost daily in the summer and no cracks. I think they were on to something earlier with the torque specs. These things are tightened in inch pounds not foot pounds. Just get it slightly tight and make sure you have the proper spacers in there too. I only slightly cracked one panel and that was after a 200 lb tree branch fell on it. Don't discount that someone might be messing with you too. Dropping things on your car, ex-girlfriend, disgruntled neighbor, they are definitely not that fragile. I suspect they were just over tightened and on glass that will definitely break it over time. Good luck.

LoL at exgirlfriend. I will have to recheck the torque specs. But it was nothing more than a snug turn.

Guess I have to hunt for another glass
