First look. Inside the Lexus sc300/400 gauge cluster.

Wanted to share my information.
I bought a 96 GS300 Gauge Cluster in working condition, with all the needles working. 96 GS300 Needles are the same size as the SC400.
I took the working Needles from the GS300 and put it on my SC400 Cluster. Well it did NOT light up.
I switched the Canister assembly too and it did not work. I thought that was the only thing that kept the SPEEDO and TACHO needles to light up
I have tried this a while back. I have taken my cluster out so many times, its like going to MacDonald and order a number one.
If anyone out there have any other ideas let me know.

time and difficulty depend on skill. for instance, my father and i decided he needed a new engine in his car. today we bought a parts car with a great engine and tranny so (FWD car) we decided to do the swap. he started on one and I on the other side by side. i had my engine and tranny in the air before he had the cv's disconnected.
so as far as difficulty goes..... maybe something like this:
novice- dont try it.
somewhat experienced in electronics repair or internal panel dissasembly- 2.5 hours
whiz kid- 1 hour tops.

Tx- i have 16 bulbs sitting in front of me and they are all identical size and girth. they are 16 different voltages. unless you have a resistance reading and a voltage schematic, i wouldnt go on looks alone as to them being the same.
for arguments sake they are the same then you need to get a d.m.m. and run a voltage probe through the main board and figure out which tracer might have a burnt spot in it.

Hey One
Not trying to argue with you or anyone.
I just thought if it looks the same, its worth a try, got nothing to lose
I just wanted to share my information. We're all on this site after the same problem.
I am not an EE or ME. I just have some free time and like to tinker with my car.

CV,
I think what one is getting at is that there is a dmamged circuit on your board for the SC400 (possibly). And the only way to find that out is with a ohmmeter. Perhaps you need a new board at the least for your SC400 gauges.
To tinker with those items he is recommending a schematic with voltage and resistance specs to compare to measured readings off the components with a meter. Only then will you know if these items will work interchangeably.
Good luck.
