Default Temp Gauge Issue

Mods, please delete, I bypassed the wiring of the person that did the swap prior to me and the gauge works correctly. He never connected it through somewhere between the sensor wire and IK1 engine side plug

Ive done searching through forums and Google....

I have the sc300 / 1JZ swap. I performed the method of grounding the pin on the connector in the passenger footwell. This causes the needle only to rise to the first tic mark above 'C'. While driving it just stays right there. Doesnt rise or fall unless the key is removed.

The sensor was replaced (single pin) and the cluster is known good from another sc300. Thoughts? Searching typically brings back those with needles pegging hot.
