92 Sc300 auto to manual Cost
 
i am completely new to this site so take it easy on me guys:)

I have been looking through other threads and doing tons of research the past few nights, everyone on this topic says you can pick you a w58 transmission for a couple hundred bucks. ive been looking parts for the swap and got a hold of what major components i needed for a w58 swap, this added up to cost roughly 1800 dollars.

so i figured at this price i might as well do a r154 swap, repeated my process and came up with 2000 dollars.

Can anybody put together a kit or find me a transmission for cheaper then 700 bucks?

best bet is to find a trashed sc300 in a junk yard that still has all the components you need and try to get it for under 800 bucks and you'll have almost everything besides the adapter plate and some other parts that will cost you a few hundred bucks. that's my plan, just gotta get lucky now lol

That is a great idea, i should try scavenging for some parts. where could i buy an adapter plate?

adapter plates are available new at toyotav8.com or you can probably find a used one somewhere, they're not a moving part so you don't have to worry about any wear or anything. you can find anything you need new at toyotav8 btw. they have everything you could need, also driftmotion.

EDIT:
well this is even easier for you, i thought you had an SC400. just find another sc300 and you're almost set lol.

If you have an auto sc300 and ever plan on going turbo, just do the r154 don't even waste time reading about the w58. the cost is not much different but the end result will be much stronger. Also factor in the shifter extension or the cost of getting a Soarer R154 that won't need an extension.

Now if you are going to stay n/a or have a sc400 that is going to stay n/a, the w58 will get the job done and last a long time and save you some money. A r154 would still not be a bad idea but will cost more.

+1 for R154. just spend a little more and get something you will be very comfortable to make power on.

You can piece it together less. right now im right around 700. So far I have MK4 clutch pedal set, DM stainless clutch line, master cylinder, 96 supra W58 complete with shifter, tripod, and bellhousing, clutch fork, complete driveshaft, flywheel

Better hurry man. R154 is coming up in price. People are getting these more and more due to fact that they are still stout trannys and no one wants to pay $8,000 or more for a V160.
It'll hold tons of power with a good clutch.
Forget the W58, spend the extra and get the R154

EDIT: re-read your original post. If I am understanding your question correctly about the expense of a tranny..... you will not find a good R154 for under $1500 probably these days. lots of places they're going for $2k or more
If you have ABSOLUTELY no desire to go turbo, then just get the W58

go 350z/370z cd009 6spd, less for the tranny all you need is an adapter for $400 from collins and a couple of other things and you can be done. about as good as a v160 for a 1/4 of the price. i am looking into that myself

The 350Z 6 speed is not what I would call the most straightforward or reliable bolt on and go setup.
The W58/R154 setup on the other hand can be bolted on with all factory parts and clutch kits and if you need work done on it they are pretty much like the factory 5 speed those cars came with.

Just buy a good SC300 with a 5- speed. there is one on ebay now.

I will echo this.
Do NOT buy a tranny for a different car, especially that one, unless you go T56 or something crazy.
That nissan tranny won't hold anywhere near a broken V160, not to mention close to the R154. Go R154. $1500 aint bad really and it'll handle up to around 850ish with a good clutch.
See my sig, no problems with the R154 yet. Friend of mine has a MK3 supra, GTE swap, 76mm, making more power than me and he has.....R154

r154 is the best way to go for cheap, I should of did it over a v160 because of the price at the end
