Do you want to go fast immediately, our do you have a lot of patience?
Out of the box the sc is a turd, but has the most potential. And most likely the highest price tag.
99-04 mustang gt`s are slow. move on, or get an 03-04 mach1 or cobra.
Ls1 fastest out of the box and responds incredibly well to mods. Said mods will probably cause the rear end to grenade, so budget for that a well. This is the closest you'll get to "fast and cheap" with a h/c/i swap

Get a well maintained SC. You cant beat the luxury for one. If you go with a 2jz you have so many parameters to make decisions when you decide to turbo it so that's fun. I've met a lot of pony car guys and they usually all have the exact same set up which is nice...also the sound of a V8 is sweet. But a spooling turbo is too.

pffff that is nothing!
my sc has almost 200k
and great compression in all cylinders.
what you don't know yet is just exactly how overengineered Toyota made their engines in the 90s.
Pretty much indestructible.
I have seen post with people who have over 300k on their scs.
the cars can take a beating!

This
And This
And this. 228k miles here on the original 2JZ-GE engine and no issues. You just do required maintenance and change leaky high mileage gaskets when necessary (valve cover gaskets for me). Granted I haven't turbocharged it yet but the above is absolutely true. The 2JZ is a TOUGH engine and over designed the way Mercedes over designs their best indestructible engines. High mileage isn't a concern with these so much as whether or not the car was maintained well over its life. And even then the engines take a lot of abuse.

kewlstory, can't go wrong with 92-00 sc's, especially 98-00. Find low mileage 98-00 sc4 v8, get valve body upgrade, Dragon TQ, Headers with custom exhaust, BFI and to make the most out of everything UNICHIP it. Don't forget about good suspension BIlstein/hyperco 650/500 and you're golden! With a good maintenance you will enjoy that car without a turbo for at least 300k miles!
BTW i have 98 sc400 with 124k miles for sale
