Default Sorry to revisit an old thread, Want a short shifter for 96 SC300

Does anyone know who makes a short throw shifter for a 1996 SC300 recently? I've looked everywhere for a year now and no one has it. I've tried MVP Motorsport that has it listed on their website but not available, TRD and all of ebay. Also Sonic Motor has it on their website but also out and no info on when or if they will have it again. Please help!

Also checked all the MK4 Supra NA sites, no luck.

I think L-Tuned has it for sale.

I shift fast enough to not need or want a short shifter. You can buy something more worthwhile.

Thanks for the reply TheAzn. I have checked with L-Tuned Parts and the one they sell is not for the 1996 W58, only for the 1992 to 94 Sc300 or the MK3 Supra or the IS300's. I need the one for US spec 96 Sc300 or MK4 Supra 93 to 98 5speed non turbo. Thanks though!

Dealer don't carry them anymore?

someone told me that the 6 speed would work. I bought one off eBay but didn't go into 2,4 and reverse properly. I'm guessing due to china brand. Once I get my car running, I'll mod the china shifter to see if it will work.

I heard the Supra 6 speed works but nothing to back it up. Has anyone else tried that?

I've tried the ebay short throw shifter for the v160, but my bushing was messed up, and it wouldn't go into all gears. It does bolt up to the tripod W58, I can tell you that.

I've also heard of others using it as well.

I am going to experiment with a Honda shifter and see. I will post results when I get something accomplished.

Default Honda short shifters will not work.

I bought a Honda Civic Short shifter for $8.50 delivered so I can see if it will fit a 96 SC300. It will not fit. It was worth a try. The pictures on eBay looked close enough but the size of the Honda shifter is way too big. I am back to possibly cutting then welding an extention to my stock shifter but looks like I will need additional part to make it fit. Photos of old posts shows the C's kit and eBay kits having additional parts that raise the shift point higher and make room for clearance issues. I guess I can try to fabricate it all. Back to the drawing board!

I don't have a specific lead for you but I'm finding this lack of availability strange. Not three years ago it was the 92-94 SC300 transmission that it was hard to find a short shifter for-- but the 95-97 SC and MKIV NA were easy and available. Now it's reversed? To my knowledge there is currently only one aftermarket short shifter available for the older 5-speeds.

So the following isn't available?

Here?
http://www.suprastore.com/trdshsh19tos.html

Two things you can try. Call Carson Toyota directly and ask for Jose or Luis. See if either of them can still source the late model Supra NA (95+) TRD or C's shifter. Barring that, try contacting Japan Pro Link (simple main website with contact info and an ebay store) if you are willing to pay a bit more and have the part imported from Japan (assuming it can be sourced).

I'm still puzzled as to why it's the late model version that is harder to obtain when the early versions have exactly one aftermarket option available.

searched the same thing earlier this year

http://www.supraforums.com/forum/sho...-throw-shifter
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/per...is-thread.html

learn about the differences in the mk3/4 supras and early/later sc300 transmissions.
then google w58 short shifter, supra short shifter, etc etc
read what other guys (specifically supras) are using and then go find a place that stocks the one you read about

I forgot I had a v160 ebay shifter I used on my W58, but like I said the bushing was messed up, so not sure if it works. I kinda grinded on it and messed the bearing thing up a bit, trying to get it to work.

$10 shipped.

C's made 2 different types of short shifters (straight & swan neck depending on the year). Not sure about their availability. They also have other applications.
