I painted my TT wheels matte black with the infamous plasti-dip and it actually cameout perfect and was very simple to do.

The centercaps for both Toyota and Lexus only have two choices, either painted silver or chrome, polished isn't an option since the caps are plastic. So if you're going to polish the wheels, your only choice as a close match would be chrome for the centers. But if you want an exact match, then you would have to have the actual wheel chrome plated.

aha, so that means the TT wheels never came polished from the factory, or the polished wheels all used chrome caps?

on a side note, i'm dropping off my car at wheels of america tomorrow, so i'll keep you guys posted with the outcome

Yeah, the shiny TT wheels polished with a chrome like plastic center cap. There were never actually "chrome plated" TT wheels, although I have seen some that have been chrome plated that look great!

Actually there are Chrome TT wheels, not sure why there is confusion about it on the internet. I own some chrome TT wheels and seen others. Chrome and Polished Aluminum wheels are night and day next to eachother. My center caps are "chrome plated" with the Toyota emblem sticking outword.

I think what he means is that the wheels were never offered in chrome from the factory. Now there have been plenty of dealers and owners that had the TT wheels chromed aftermarket, but they never came that way stock. They were only offered in polished and silver painted finishes from the oem.

I'm with this guy, they offered a factory chrome option.

Do you have any sources to cite since you were the first to assert they came from the factory that way? I'm pretty sure from the order guides I used to see for the Supra back in the 90's and polished wheels were the option, painted silver was the standard. Dealers would have stock wheels chromed and installed on the cars sitting on the dealer lots.

In any case, what does it matter, factory chromed or not, it's all the same process and usually yields the same quality. Can you tell if a wheel was chromed aftermarket vs factory?

Also, it is not "night and day" as you assert, a well polished wheel will be pretty close to the mirror finish of a chrome wheel. There IS a subtle difference, but not night and day difference between the two. Most people won't know the difference unless you point it out to them.
