What's it worth? (RSP Sc400)

Hey guys,

I found a 1998 RSP SC400 for sale and was wondering what you guys would think it's worth. I love the RSP color, but I'm not sure what would be a good price for it (KBB doesn't factor in the color lol).

It has 112k miles and exterior wise from the pictures looks like it's in good shape.

Here's the more detailed info and mods as well as maintenance from the listing.

Salvaged title due to theft. It has VIN# all around indicating it's never been in a major wreck or anything. Automatic Transmission which shifts amazingly smooth. A/C Blows Ice Cold. Black Leather Interior in great shape with minor wear but no rips or tears. It does have tinted windows all around with lifetime warranty from Best Image in San Mateo.

Upgraded 6000K HID Headlights , Upgraded 3000K Fog Lights , Upgraded Rear License Plate L.E.D Lights and Interior Lights. Alpine Head Unit Stereo MP3/Sirius XM , Brand new 6.5 Focal Speakers in the front and 6.5 Infinity references in the rear , 4 Channel Mcntosh amp, JL Audio 500/1 Mono Block Amp , JL W6 , 18' Staggered XXR 521. Runs Excellent ,

-Changed upper and lower radiator Hoses last summer.
-Complete Transmission Service with OEM Toyota Fluid on 12/19/12
-Oil Changed on 12/19/12 with Mobile 1 Full Synthetic and OEM Oil Filter.

Seen this on craigs few weeks ago. Surprised no one has picked this up yet, maybe due to the title and that it can't pass smog due a bad O2 sensor. Considering these are extremely rare (<20 I believe) and low mileage. It is worth his asking price (if we saw the same price).. maybe you could haggle a bit. gl

That car has been hit in the rear look at the bumper how it meets the body and the rear lower ground effect, I would call bs on the theft story.

If it had a clear title and no previous damage I could see 11k but I would not pay more than 3k the way it sits, RSP cars demand big money over other colors of the same vintage as there was only 17 RSP on black cars built in only 1997.

They are hard to come by esp in great shape not hacked all to hell by previous owners who may not have known what they had.

I would say around $8,000 due to the salvage title. I don't think the salvage title is a big deal on a car this clean, but it can be a hassle getting the car insured from what I hear.

How much is the owner asking for it?

I have never heard of an sc being stolen before. Car looks clean but the rear bumper doesnt look right. Did you check vin to see if its a legit rsp!

I just noticed the rear bumper like you mentioned. Rear end damage is no joke and is costly to repair properly. I retract my statement of it being worth $8,000. $2,500 sounds good to me.

I myself would never pay more than $5k for a salvage title. It's just not worth it. Might as well get a beat up one and build it. You'd get more money back if ever you decide to sell it.

Wow, i love that color, id say 6g's

CalitriSC Dec 20, 2012 10:24 PM

Maybe $5k max, they didn't even fix the rear end right. And what are you supposed to do with it not passing smog?

xspsi6 Dec 20, 2012 10:27 PM

Plus if you look at the paint work it looks like a crappy back yard job, Look where the light reflects off the car in the pics, That car is a clunker so I would stay away from it!

Maybe it's that tuans car...y'all remember that kid. who used his uncle's supra andcsaid it was his. painted the sc himself rsp. hahaha

I wouldn't touch that car with a 10 foot pole unless I have a carfax report stating the REAL side to the story. I wouldn't have much of an issue with rear end damage if it was repaired correctly. As shown on the image above, the workmanship looks really inferior. My advice to you is to have the VIN checked out with an insurance company and see if they'll even insure it. Most insurance carriers wont insure a car if there's been a total loss claim already paid out on that particular vehicle.

But to answer your question, I wouldn't pay more than $4000 for it. There are way too many unknowns with this car.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahaah

no man tuans car was ruined by driving through a puddle, or at least that was his story, u could never get the truth out of him lmao.

oh man thanks for the laughs lol

On a side note that sc has been nailed in the back, the quarter panel itself is warped not only the bumper and extension and clearly it hasnt6 been repaired professionally and im guessing its also a respray which just kills the value further.

I wouldnt do business with a proven liar, just walk away from this one.

Tuan was awesome! Just reading his name made me smile.

3L4jzz31 Dec 21, 2012 10:29 AM

Yeah not gonna even bother contacting the guy about it, he wants $6500 for it and after seeing just that rear qp issue I wouldn't even want to deal with it considering what I would offer would be significantly lower. And yeah the respray definitely drops the value.

Thanks guys!
