Driftech's 2013 Pro-Am Rebuild

Been a CL Member for many years, haven't posted too much so I feel the need to post about my 2013 Formula D Pro-Am rebuild. 2012 was my first year of competitive driving and what a great experience it was. I learned so so much, met and enjoyed the company of a great many like minded people. I am going to be preparing my car over the next few months for my next years Pro Am series, where I will be competing in Top Drift and Vegas Drift.

My Build Goals

1. going from 1J to 2J. need to source all parts and motor. goal is 550whp. I am most likely going to run a gtx 35 turbo. thinking of stock internals aside from just cam and cam gears. I already have an aem ems and a solid fuel system. so just going to pull what i can off my 1j.
2. rewire body harness to custom (Race) harness. going to get rid of all the dead wires!!
3. extend front lower control arms and replace front/back uppers with Battle Version
4. Install emergency kill switch
5. windows to lexan
6. remove weather seal from bottom of car.
7. make all AN lines
8. re plumb my brake system.
9. fresh paint in/out

I am a little vague at the moment because I am still refining the specifics. I promise to keep updates of parts and work as I complete. Also I am actively looking for sponsorship. I am currently sponsored by Achiles Radial and CP Carrillo, unfortunately I don't think I can afford to put pistons or rods in this build so might have to wait for another build. we will see where my money is at. still working on a budget. I need to know how much I can get for all my used parts.

At the moment the engine is pulled and the inside of the car is empty. next up is pull the trans, clutch, pp, turbo, wg, and exhaust manifold of ald motor. will get to that either today or tomorrow and I will snap some photos of the progress.

Skip the GTX and just go with a GT. Money is a concern for you and the GTX only made marginal gains on the GT series of the same spec. Spool tends to arrive around 250-400rpm sooner, but the real improvements are for those that have maxed the GT35 already. The 550whp mark you are looking to achieve is well within the capabilities of the GT35.

the quicker spool is what I'm interested in. but I agree if the price is too much than maybe i just rebuild my gt35.

If you are hitting your lca and sway than one easy way to fix that is with wheel spacers. I am running 18x9 +10 on the front of my car and I am barely clearing it. also another fix would be to run more camber. I am running -3 camber.

I got 40mm of spacer up front right now wheels are 7.5 35off and I'm running bv inners on awesome shop knuckles.

Thinking about just biting the bullet and going wisefab front and back...

Sounds like your maxed. I'd like to see a pic full lock. My next move was to extend my lower control arms. so maybe try that before you spend 2K. I was thinking the same thing, but I just can't fork out 2K, I'm going to try extending the lowers for 100-200$. cut weld.

If i were you I wouldn't even worry about swapping the motor! But if you have it $$$ go for it .

All you need on your 1jz is the right combination of parts.

Imo Gtx is overrated, regular gt35 will do just fine with the right combination again.

refreshen everything and have fun!
