Default Car runs cold ( AT NIGHT) should i be worried?

I live in Arizona so the heat can be pretty unforgiving; so i only run a water additive (something similar to water wetter) and distilled water.

during the day my temperature gauge stays just a bit below half (which is great).

but ever since ive purchased and installed my new shroud my temperature gauge is between 1/4th and zero (when i have the heater core open).

is this a problem or should i not be worried much?

i dont think its the thermostat since it operates fine during normal weather but... i guess ill take your inputs.

daytime:

night driving: (dont worry, i may not have been the one holding the camera)

also the temp gauge reads lower than this sometimes; ive also verified im not experiencing any loss in fuel efficiency.

Ok man, this might sound crazy, but have you ever removed your cluster before? If so, lol, try smacking the top of your dashboard. Seriously, sometimes my thermo needle would get stuck in that position after removing my cluster a few times.

Maybe try it with water only, it seems like that water additive is definitely doing its job during the day time, but at night it might be doing its job a little too well, and not allowing the water to get warm enough, thus not allowing the thermostat to open

sounds good! and yea i remove my cluster all the time but thats not the issue ( i ran my car with out a shroud for the summer and it was running warm all the time) now that i have a shroud plus the additive its super cold.

ill try removing it and running a normal coolant/distilled water setup instead!

thanks all

My 92 SC400 has always run at the second mark shown in your first photo for 21 years, never deviating under any circumstance. I guess is that you have something wrong and worth fixing.
