Default Opinion-New seatbelt webbing to replace old SC seatbelts

So my driver's side seatbelt is starting to fray after twenty years of use. I have a tan/ivory/greige interior and I thought that instead of buying an entire new factory assembly I might just obtain new seatbelt material and have an upholstery shop re-sew it into place into my old assembly.

What do you guys think? This company will (for a fortune) restore old Chevrolet, Mopar and Ford muscle car belts but they also sell entirely new webbing. Assuming they can accommodate the exact width of an SC belt this may be a good alternative for people looking into restoration.

I'm really interested to see where this goes.. I need a new belt too. It is really frayed. I cut off the fray before, but it came back, and now the belt gets stuck tightly around my waist.

Try a junkyard, see if you can just find a new belt there.....

Just an FYI most manufacture have a lifetime seatbelt warranty. Might want to check the dealership before you do anything.

Kahn, I'm going to take "greige" as my own. Classy.

I'm also interested in seeing where this goes. My future plans include a blended interior.

AnonymousG, I actually did check with Carson Toyota and they cannot source any color other than black any longer. That is not just the belt but the entire assembly. If anyone reading has a black interior or is interested in a conversion then that will be great but it leaves people with tan and grey interiors to recyclers.

I've trimmed the frayed bits off my seatbelt and melted the ends slightly with a lighter for now but I'm going to need a replacement belt soon and that's why I'm looking into this.

brerrabbit, it's an odd choice for an interior color name, isn't it? That's what Lexus/Toyota calls it, lol. A blended interior sounds nice. I considered that since some later models were two-tone.

I'm not going to call them until this coming week. I will post what they tell me. Hopefully I won't have to send out my belt assembly to be reworked. If so I'll have to buy a used one as this is my DD car.

Kahn, that's an interesting write up on SF...I'm sure that's very time consuming, but it looks worthwhile? Can you post a pic of your interior, this will help give us some idea of this color? Who knows, may be there is someone hear that has what you're looking for?

I have custom black/tan interior and an extra black seatbelt laying around. I have tan belts installed in my car rightnow so if you're interested I wouldnt mind having the black ones in my car and then you could have my tan ones.

It looks a little involved, yes. I'm holding off for now but I'm strongly considering it. I'm afraid I don't have pictures handy right now. If I have any time in between work this weekend I'll throw one up. What I have is just a standard tan interior, though, if that helps. Ivory/tan/greige is just what Lexus calls their tan interior bits in the parts catalogues.

I may consider getting a used belt installed as well. For now the stock belt is holding but I'm taking care of this within the month. If I didn't have a week long job coming up I'd have more info on this by now.
