Hey everyone,

I just got my car after a service. I had the oil pan changed and did a regular oil change along with it (Mobil 1 Synthetic). After i got the car i noticed there was an odd clunking noise coming from the car that wasnt there before. I already contacted the dealership but im wondering if anyone here had the same issue and can tell me what causes it.

If you had your engine oil pan changed, there's no way they replaced it without at the least loosening the bolts for the front crossmember, but more likely they removed the crossmember. It is already known that those bolts get loose in time and make a clunking sound, so if they didn't tighten it to the right torque specs, then there you go. . . . And might as well check the engine mounts torque specs, since they're gonna be in there again.

Thanks for the info guys. But I should mention that the noise is there while the car is idling. Also I changed the lower oil pan. If I remember correctly the lower pan doesn't involve messing around with camber.

 

My oil pan actually have a leak, 'cause for some reason the previous owner resealed it with that orange high temp silicone which is clearly not OEM, I never got around fixing it because the crossmember needs to be lowered like an inch, for the oil pan to slide out, that's how I know there's no other way around it for both oil pans. If it is clunking while on idle, it just might be the engine mounts, either they're already split in half or its not tightened to spec.

 

well the issue didn't exist until they changed the pan so I don't think the mounts would be split. I will have them take a look tomorrow.

 

Alright, i took the car to the dealer but by the time i got there the sound disappeared. My guess is that the noise goes away once the engine warms up. Also they told me that to remove the lower oil pan, they didnt have to do anything with the crossmember. I'm not sure if they are lying or misinformed.
