With the studs, yeah I should be able to remove the starter no problem.

sweet would love to see some pics and I managed to talk my brother into going this route as well.

 

IDK if this helps, but collins told me to drill through the starter bolt holes on the tranny so you can use a nut and bolt setup. Beats welding a stud and or dropping the tranny for starter changes.

 

has anyone made progress on their 350z tranny install? i just ordered mine today and the 1jz, i will make a seperate post documenting it as i haven't seen anyone complete the install yet.

The only thing id be a little worried about with the JZ flywheel to 350z flywheel adapter is the added weight on the end of the crank. Perhaps this could slightly unbalance things by having it spaced so far out? I'm probably just being paranoid but it's a thought.

 

So the spacer requires you to leave the stock flexplate and then run the spacer and Then the Flywheel...

Hmm - not sure I like that, but I can see where that would be the easiest way to make up for the additional space - the comment above I can understand what thye are saying about possibly throwing crank balance off as well. This is the way I want to go - but i'm a few months from being read yet for sure.

Have two vehicles i need to sell and then in the fall I can more than likely do this - like the stud idea welded on as well for the starter bolts.

I took this pic yesterday, kinda shows shifter location I guess. Shifter will need to be modified to work with the interior trim, hoping to do that this weekend. I'm thinking the shifter sits more back on my car than the other guy who did it on his SC400 is because maybe the V8 isn't as long of a motor, so maybe the end of it is a little more forward than the end of the 2jz. Just my theory at least.

Then I have to work on the tune a bit to get it more drivable. Tune has changed quite a bit with all the engine work I did.

 

cool. so this is with a stock 350z shifter mount? Sounds like removing a few inches (which is very doable) should do the trick. the Collins shortening service moves it about 5 inches forward i believe.

I bought the billet shortened shifter base. Pretty much the same one the SC400 guy used. You can see in his pic how his shifter ended up in a pretty ideal location, where mine is almost in the cup holder. That's why I'm thinking maybe the V8 "ends" a little more forward than the 2jz, because that's pretty much the only reason I can think of as to why mine would be so different. I'll see what we come up with this weekend to try and get the shifter moved up a bit.

 

alright, in that case just shortening the shifter isn't quite going to do it. i'm all ears for what you end up doing! do you have a picture top down to see the rest of the transmission through the shifter hole? Because once you get to the part with the black plate then that's the limit..
