HDY remove the center console armrest?

Hi Guys,

I've been looking all over the forums for a DIY write up to remove your center arm rest but have not found anything. I took out all the screws in the arm rest. on the the top and bottom of the compartment box but it still seems to be attached? I currently have my center cosole partly removed due to the rebuilding of my climate controll but I'd rather not have to remove the whole thing. Any info on how to get this thing out without having to remove my whole center console would be great. Thanks guys!

Are you just trying to remove the climate control? cause I didn't have to do any of that to remove mine. I just removed the plastic trim that surrounded the console, by removing the shifter and all its plastic first. Then everything was just a loosen this screw loosen that screw deal.

No, I already have my climate contrtol out (its being rebuit) lol I need to get the leather arm rest off. I have a new one to put on.

remove the 10mm in the bottom of the center console locate and remove 2 black discs near lid hinge, remove hardware and pull up on inside section of the center console

once that is removed i think there are 2 or 3 #2 phillips head screws holding the lid on

I have removed all (3) 10mm screws and the 2 right infront of the hinge. For some reason it will not budge. Ill take some hotos or try to pull straight up on the console. Thanks!

Keep me/us updated on this. I've tried previously in the past and have got as far as you did but gave up since I feel I might break it if I start to pry.

There has got to be a way to remove this damn arm rest! I want to put my new one on but cannot get the box out to remove the lid off the hinge!! Do I really need to remove the whole center console to get this thing off!? Someone has had to have done this before!

There are 2 arrow head shaped plastic pieces that attach to the bottom of the center console. Mines broke off when I tried to pry them out. If stuck I suggest u take out the center console and get them from the bottom.

I stripped my whole dash and console today, and remembered this thread so thought I'd help you out and take some pics

The short answer is you cannot get the armrest / storage box thing out seperately

Here's why. It all comes out as this piece:

Attachment 502392

And the box / armrest IS a seperate piece but unfortunately not held in by screws, but arrowhead pinch clips at front (view from underneath)....

Attachment 502393

........and rear.....

Attachment 502394

So you could force the ***** and potentially snap the pinch clips, which is all cool you could just glue the box back in, or potentially snap the **** around the clips which is less good

But seriously, taking that whole piece of trim out isn't hard

- remove shifter
- remove shifter surround
- remove cup holder
- remove a/c dial and volume dial front console surround
- unscrew head unit and a/c cage (dont have to disconnect anything, just loosen the main cage)
- unscrew massive console trim piece
- profit

Actually maybe remove glove box also

I had it out anyway, can't remember if you actually need to remove it to access the other screws for centre console pieces

But glove box is a cake walk to remove anyway

Kalogerus 04-06-12 09:45 PM

^^ no need to remove the glove box

As for gluing.. blah those arrowheads are as useless as a ladybug. The screws will hold the armrest in place tight enough.

So should I take it apart or try prying it out? If I can feel no difference once they are bolted back i then idk what to do

xxtoobsxx 04-06-12 11:57 PM

Use some huevos n pull. Those lil 3 10mm bolts are all thays holding it down!
