Just bought first Sc400 and issues...
Hello all,
I just got my first Sc400 with 171k for $3860, came with extra set of aft mkt rims, subs stereo, full tint. Ran and shifted good, exterior is 8/10 and interior 8/10. JUst lightly ripped driver seat.
Issues so far,
Driver window does not roll down, passenger does but not with driver switch.
Heated seats buttons don't work.
Traction control button doesnt do anything.
Check engine light for Cat code. Not a big deal.
Other then that its fine, Except for this
Usually when cold, before first 10 minutes of running, car lightly not loudly clunks into drive, reverse etc. Yet the trans upshifts SILKY smooth. Seems only when I go from gears does it once in a while do this, doesn't do it all the time.
Once in a while on a downshift from 2nd to first, it will do the same light clunk..
Could this be mounts?

Nice looking car!
I'm have the same issue with my 92 400. First check your drive shaft. The center bearing could be worn. I've discovered my axle half shafts have about 2 inches of play in them and the diff has about a 1/2 inch of play. Those are next to be replaced. My car also has a roaring vibration while going down the road, and it's not the wheel bearings. I believe once I replace the diff and half shafts it'll be like new (sort of) again.

Yea that sounds like mine to, I also thought it was wheel bearings, but seems to be coming from right underneath the shifter lever. I will have to look into it more next week when I can get it on a lift in the air. I am more concerned with the clunky sound which I hope is just mounts and not the trans itself.

Yeh, right now it has stock rims on it, but still looks good. I got to buy new tires for the rims... Previous owner didn't understand that to keep your tires in good shape, you need to have a good alighnment espeically with rims.

As for the window not rolling down and the switch not working I had the same problem. Sounds like you need a new regulator on the drivers side as for the switch you can take it apart and sand the contacts. Worked for me! Trac control can either be a burnt out light in the cluster (heard of this happening for e-brake) or a fuse

I would say the clunk when cold is the tranny or motor mounts or both going bad. Also check the center bearing, and the rubber chunks on the driveshaft ends. Lastly, check the axle bolts on both ends of the axles, assure they are rear tight. Good luck and welcome to the SC community.

The clunk is the tranny mount AND center bearing. One wears the other out. They are both mounted on rubber and the rubber ages (obviously) the same as both have the driveline stress on them. The rubber mounts over the center bearing go first, then the tranny mount sags because of it, then the center bearing goes because the tranny is sagging and binding it.
It's all cause/effect. Replace them both and life will be good. One at a time, and you'll be killing the new part.
