Exclamation

Ok guys, sorry for delay...wife has been real sick but thats another loooong story. Issue is fixed and the probem is a check valve located near the banjo bolt on the power steering pump. Easiest way to get to it is get the front of the car in the air, remove splash guard and it's visible from there. It's really tight in there but only took me 45mins total to fix. Have full time power steering with no leaks and even better NOOOOO more smoking. The part is in stock at my local Lexus dealer which tells me this is a very common issue. Holla if you have any questions guys and I'll be more then happy to help!

My power steering on my 96 sc400 is also leaking.....How do you know when it is just a leak and when the pump is bad. When I fill the reservoir, the car runs fine...does that mean its just a leak somewhere??????

Default Same problem here '96 SC400

So glad that I found this forum! Thanks Google! I had to have my alternator rebuilt once already from the PS leak... I also have to add PS fluid regularly because of the leak. I didn't realize it didn't use regular Power Steering fluid. Hope that didn't cause additional problems. I have the same heavy exhaust problem too. Never would have thought the problems were related.

Anyway, at the shop right now and discovered this thread while waiting for the crew to reattach the hose that mysteriously came off today and dumped PS fluid all over the new parking lot at my work. Brown and frothy. The guy just told me that due to so much fluid spilling out that it caught fire, but he got it put out right away... yikes. Anyway. I'm going to talk to him about replacing that part you recommend.

Thanks again for the insight on this! A part number would be helpful if you can look it up.

Lol this makes me wonder on my 93 sc400. My situation is weird. Sometimes i go thru ps fluid in a week. Sometimes takes a month. Sometimes 2 months then back to a week. Lol. Ima look into the check valve fix myself. ****s nuts lol.

Thanks for posting a resolution, not many forum members do.

Bout to do the same procedure. Does it matter which way the vacuum lines are connected? Like is there a positive or negative port.?
