Just bought a white pearl 1992 SC300. I'm in love with my BMW but this SC300 kicks ***. wayyy more powerful than my 318is 4cyl haha.
I'm a long time member with the bimmerforums, decided to get a winter car = SC300.
I knew nothing about the car, starting to understand how this thing works.
there are a few things I dislike about this car is.. it's heavy, it's round and the gas tank is in the trunk???!?!?! what am i going to do about my two 12s Type R??? any effects or or what??
p.s. this car has about 17 gallons?
i'm already half tank and i only drove 100 miles... wtf?

So this isn't my first post, but close to it. I have always been enamored by the SC series(although i didn't know it until a few months ago, it was always "that cool Lexus" until then) and have decided that I'm buying one.
Ive read through this forum, intellexual, and just about everything else i could find about soarers and sc's.
I finally went and drove one locally, a 93 with 245k, auto, leaking oil in multiple places. It wasnt very fast, but thats really not what im looking for, plus i imagine that an SC in good conditions is much better than that one. I really did enjoy the smooth luxurious feel it had...something i dont get in my T100 truck.
I havnt decided what year i want yet, but i think that will just come naturally when i have all the money saved and see one that i want. I have decided i want a 5 speed tho, and ive got a close friend with a 2JZ-GTE..so if i find a high mileage ill probably put that in it.
You guys probably wont hear from me much untill i actually get my SC, but ill be lurking and learning everything i can about the car.

To All:
I have had my 94 SC400 for a few years and find myself in the difficult position of having to reduce my trips to the dealer for work. My car has roughly 140,000. I've done most of the required maint. and have experienced the usual problems with my baby. Specifically, my lights leak. I have had to replace the power steering and rack system and now the display and some panel lights are failing. I love my car, but am wondering how to keep it happy in the greater Washington DC area without beeing overwhelmed by rising maint. costs. I look forward to hearing from others who have faced the issues we all know about these great cars.

Nice boosted SC!!!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! I have just bought my second SC!! I owned a Sandstone Gold, 1992 SC-300, 5-speed manual for about five years before trading it in for a more family-oriented vehicle - Land Cruiser!! Now, I found a Midnight Indigo Blue, 1993 SC-400, Automatic at a local auction house for $2200 and have spent only $800 fixing it up (I'm doing all the work myself). I have replaced the rear shocks, trunk struts, passenger door handle, some light bulbs, and changed the oil. What I have left:
1) Replace Rack and Pinion (any suggestions? I have the procedure from www.alldatadiy.com but any pointers would be greatly appreciated)
2) Replace front shocks (do I really have to remove the fender liner, engine under cover, front wheel opening molding, windshield washer fluid reservoir, and speed sensor? Whew!! Got my work cut out for me...)
3) Replace thermostat and/or heating core (another huge job!!)
4) Replace speakers for the Nakamichi sound system (any hints on what's best to replace with? The front speakers don't work at all and the rear speakers fluctuate between rich tones and heavy treble. Not good for the ears...)
5) Drain and flush the power steering fluid and automatic transmission fluid
6) Replace the rear tires
7) Replace the front brakes
That's it for now. Despite all the work, which I enjoy, I think I got myself a bargain since the retail price is around $6000 - $8000 on the local lots here in VA.
Will post picks later...
Again, Happy Turkey Day to everyone.
Cheers!!

My first SC300
To all ClubLexus Members!
I'm picking up a 92' SC300 automatic w/ 106k miles on Monday. It is a Southern Floriday car with no rusts. The car is in good condition minus a few things that need to be fixed. This is my first SC300. I did alot of reading and researching before I decided to pick one up. It will be use for my beater/daily drive.
I always wanted the 97+ model because of the looks but don't want to invest that much right now since it is my first SC300. I read there is a conversion kit that allows you to convert, so I will try that route. For the price of what I'm paying, there isn't a car that can beat it in term of reliability, looks, comfort and resale value.
I will be taking advantage of the search button. However, I will also need your experience and expertise or whatever you can spare to give me a good head start in the SC300 world.
I will get some pics up as soon as I can. Happy holiday to all!

Hey my name is Mike (duh lol) I'm active in alot of other toyota forums since I own too many yet not enough I just got my first Lexus 2 weeks ago as the bug hit me. I was originally going to buy an SC300 from DriftGirl but after some issues I ended up finding a SC400 with 140,000 for $2650. Pretty stock except some aftermarket sound stuff. It really needs a body kit, exhaust, and revamped torque converter but I'm pretty happy with it as my daily for now. I also have a 85' toyota 4x4, a 85' MR2, a 88' Corolla GTS, and co-owner of an 85' Corolla GTS.
