if headlights are toe up, add a headlight restore kit (1000, 2000 grit sand paper, plastx ), & clay bar

Not a common item, does fail though.... like everything else.

What's interesting about common failure items is that as the years go on the bulletproof things that normally don't fail will start to fail in higher numbers. This will increase the perception that these items fail more commonly, but they will not fail AGAIN on you like the items will that myself and some others have listed.

Lightbulb Chart needed

It would be cool if a sticky chart could be set up so that members could log when these items failed (by mileage?) Then we could get a feel for what may be in our future. My 400 has 55k and all of these things are fine NOW. (With the exception of the sub. The cone seems to have completely turned to dust and is no where to be found. Just two wires hanging in midair.) It was at the dealer ship every 8-10 months for the first 26k (2007) of its life so I know what has and hasn't been done up until then. The last 30k are a mystery.

The cost of owning these cars is nowhere near as cheap as people come in expecting...I think it would be good for them to come in and see what they will be getting into

I think all buyers need to realize that any car will cost quite a bit more to maintain as it gets to the age of the majority of the SC's on here. For a luxury car, it's still quite a bit cheaper to maintain than my BMW was with similar mileage. As long as the car is maintained well, you can watch out for things you will be needing to change and save accordingly. Luckily, my car has only 48,500 miles and the previous owner took it to the dealer to do all the maintenance work in regular frequency. Granted my SC cost a little more being a 2000, but open the hood and you can see almost everything that needed to be replaced was done. New hoses all around, from the coolant hoses to the power steering hoses are all brand new. As are the belts with service records to let me know what I need to do in the future. Being the owner of a 92 previously with almost 300k on the clock, I knew exactly what to look for and how to repair the most common issues with the car.
It's just a matter of due diligence on the buyers part. If I buy any car that's 10+ years and in the normal mileage range, I'd expect to spent a few grand on overdue maintenance items if the car price itself was very low.
